Connecticut Suns are currently in eleventh position on the table. Surely, such a situation is not at all ideal for the team. And while they are suffering enough on the hardwood, the team is dealing with even more outside of it. With the owners aiming to sell the team, Sun received a lucrative $325 million bid from Steve Pagliuca. Unfortunately, while that offer is being countered by the WNBA, a US senator has expressed his frustrations.
Senator Richard Blumenthal has recently expressed dissatisfaction with how the WNBA is handling the Connecticut Sun situation. With the ownership coming up with a plethora of complaints, Blumenthal’s recent statement has stirred up the pot.
Richard Blumenthal Has A Warning For The WNBA
The WNBA has not given the green signal to the Pagliuca trade offer yet. One of the main reasons for this is that Boston did not bid for the expansion team. However, reflecting on the situation, Blumenthal pointed out that the league must refrain from being involved in the deal. What was more significant was when the senator stated that such actions might lead to a violation of antitrust laws.

“Any further attempts by the WNBA to use its considerable governance and market power over the Connecticut Sun to limit or dictate negotiations with the state of Connecticut could be a unreasonable restraint of trade and interference with the market that would violate federal antitrust laws,” Blumenthal wrote.
Sun ownership will present multiple options to the WNBA hoping to salvage the $325m franchise sale.

Source says the tribe is frustrated at what it feels is the league presenting a one-path option: relocation of the team to a market of their choosing at a value of their choosing https://t.co/qtkbl9ljvh
Surely, this would ease the nerves of the Sun front office just a bit. The Mohegan Tribe is currently looking for a lucrative deal to sell the team. In fact, Sun’s ownership has started to explore other options following the league’s intervention. Now then, with such chaos ensuing, Blumenthal is not the only Senator criticizing the WNBA.

Senator Chris Murphy Criticizes The WNBA For Their Significantly Low Connecticut Sun Offer
The WNBA has reportedly offered the Sun $250 million to acquire the team. Furthermore, the involvement of the Commissioner, Cathy Engelbert, has further raised some eyebrows. Now, taking note of the same, Senator Murphy has tried to draw attention to one key factor. He has pointed out how the WNBA has deliberately come up with a ‘low-ball offer.’

“So here’s what’s going on with the @ConnecticutSun. The corporate arm of the @WNBA wants to force the Mohegan Tribe (who owns the team) to accept a low-ball offer from a Trump-backed billionaire. It’s wrong and there’s a better option,” wrote Murphy on X.
Surely, the situation around the Sun sale is looking incredibly difficult. Sadly, amid all the fiasco, the players, too, are suffering heavily due to bad infrastructure and internal unrest. Thus, the fans will eagerly wait to pounce on any new news that comes out next.
