WNBA is growing at an unprecedented rate, and like all other businesses, the credit would go to someone. Or maybe more than just one person or player. At this time, the hoop fans on social media are going against each other over the credit for the league’s popularity given to Angel Reese.
Though this could be a hard pill to swallow for another contender for the due credit, Caitlin Clark. Fans and critics go on at length to talk about whose contribution overlaps with whom. Either way, the social media fanbase is triggered by a recent post highlighting the Chicago Sky rookie’s impact on the league.
Social Media Fans Argue Over Angel Reese’s Impact On WNBA Growth
The WNBA players are on a different path, including Reese. The major issue at the moment is to unite all the camps and protest against pay disparity before the league. And probably by the next CBA deal coming later this year, players are hopeful of a favourable outcome.
This comes after the league has grown to make better revenue, not profit. And with all the equations in mind, players want a share of that revenue, not profit.
But the latest debate over credit for popularity has diverted their minds, even though for a short time.
“Serious Question: Why is it so hard for people to admit Angel Reese is the reason the WNBA skyrocketed in popularity? Angel Reese is hands down the most famous women’s athlete in the history of the world,” the post captioned.

While most fans disagreed with the bold remark, some had their say.
“She is a huge part of its success for sure. The ladies’ game has a badass physical rivalry, and the men’s game is soft. I love her …,” a fan wrote.
She is a huge part of its success for sure. The ladie’s game has a badass physical rivalry and the men’s game is soft. I love her, Wilson and Clark. She reminds me of a Rodman and Laimbeer toughness combo but better than both offensively.

While fans are fighting over it, Reese and Clark have joined hands to go up against the league to demand fair pay.
Angel Reese And Caitlin Clark Comes Together For Protest Against WNBA
The WNBA and its players are currently in a tough battle, and it’s clear that some concessions are necessary to move forward. On October 21, 2024, players made the significant decision to opt out of their Collective Bargaining Agreement. Though it was originally supposed to last until 2027.

This early opt-out set off a chain reaction that hasn’t led to any solid agreements, despite several meetings and discussions. This year’s All-Star break saw another attempt to negotiate, but instead of bringing a large group of players, the league opted for a more focused approach.
They included three of the biggest stars in women’s basketball, Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark, and newcomer Paige Bueckers. With these well-known players at the table, there’s hope for a stronger and more unified discussion.
Right now, the main issue on the table is to split the revenue between the league and the players. WNBA players currently receive just 9.3 percent of total revenue, which is a stark contrast to the NBA, where players enjoy a share of around 49 percent to 51 percent.
We’ll wait to see how far the revenue share could stretch, given the gap between the two league is a little too much.
