There are a lot of teams losing this season, but it’s the WNBA that’s winning. A lot of money in terms of fines, at least. With Sophie Cunningham fined for speaking her mind, it seems her teammate, Sydney Colson, will soon follow suit.
The Indiana Fever squeaked out a close 76-75 win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday, but the real drama unfolded off the court. During the game, a controversial referee call prompted a reset timeout with just 0.1 seconds left, had Fever players and fans fuming, believing the game was nearly handed to the Sparks.
Sydney Colson Calls Out WNBA Refs Over Controversial Calls
The Indiana point guard has been a fiery Fever lately. Colson recently defended her teammate, Kelsey Mitchell, against fan’s hate comment on social media. Soon after the back and forth, she put out her frustration over the controversial officiating.

While Indiana escaped with the victory, sidelined guard Colson didn’t hold back, taking to X(formerly Twitter) to blast the officiating in a post that’s got fans buzzing about a potential WNBA fine.
“He ran in TWICE tryna give the game away and that’s what had me weak would it have been THRICE had time allowed for it?? (Thrice means three times. I see a lot of y’all who respond to me with IDIOTIC sh*t so I knew you didn’t know the definition of thrice since ur dumb),” she tweeted.

Colson, a two-time WNBA champion recovering from a season-ending ACL tear, wasn’t at Crypto.com Arena but watched the game from home. That didn’t stop her from letting loose. However, the call in question, which gave the Sparks a last-gasp chance, didn’t result in a shot, but it left a bad taste in the Fever’s mouths.
Fans lit up, with many predicting the league would fine Colson for her outspokenness. Just a couple of hours after the tweet, many flocked in to warn her about a potential fine.

While there has been a continuous uproar among the players for controversial calls, it became too apparent during the Fever game. Social media followers were quick to warn her about the potential outcome.

Though it would be a strange thing if she still faces fine, no one can predict how the wind will blow, as fans have seen firsthand what happened with Cunningham. It’s better to say the least.
