The WNBA-WNBPA CBA discussions are in make-or-break mode right now. League sent its latest proposal, with no change in salary cap and revenue-sharing model. Moreover, the league set March 10 as the deadline for discussions, giving the association just over two weeks to make a decision.
Earlier, Breanna Stewart and Nneka Ogwumike hinted that the PA had an option in hand, which they didn’t want to use – which was a strike decision, 98% backed earlier in December. But after recent advancements, many players are now reconsidering their vote. ESPN earlier reported a rift within the WNBPA, and now, as decision-making time approaches, the picture is getting clearer.

Tense Meeting Among WNBA Players
After the league’s declaration for quick response, the WNBPA held an online meeting, as FOS reported. While the revenue-sharing remains the same, there is a chance the players’ association will reject the offer immediately. But two advancements influenced the decision.
First, the league showed urgency to get the season underway, and players also received $8 million under 2020 CBA terms after the league triggered revenue sharing for the first time. This influenced players’ votes as FOS reporter Annie Costabile explained, “Players authorized a potential strike in a near-unanimous vote in mid-December, but some players have changed their mind since.“
The WNBPA held a virtual meeting on Tuesday night to discuss the state of CBA negotiations, the tone of which became tense almost immediately.

Among the reasons for that tension, according to multiple sources, is the approach to negotiations and a potential strike.…
According to Costabile, more than half of the union leadership reaffirmed the WNBPA executive committee’s ability to call a strike when necessary.

While the report indicates a tense meeting, union members, by executive director Terri Carmichael Jackson, mentioned that “Honest debate is not division. It is engagement.” But the PA is taking things seriously and is now looking for individual players’ opinions via a survey.
WNBA To Conduct Survey
After nearly 17 months of discussion, players’ agents are now entering the discussion and seeking clarification. But their approach is to help the PA sort out things as early as possible. The agents want to know whereabouts but cannot discuss the discussions in public.
The WNPBA is also offering to meet with agents and their players “as part of our continued commitment to transparency and education throughout this process” and “to discuss the ongoing negotiations and answer any questions that your clients may have.”
The WNBPA plans to send out a survey to players in the coming days to collect their feedback on the WNBA's most recent proposal from Feb. 20, sources told ESPN. A source said this is not unusual, as the union has "regularly" surveyed players throughout the negotiation process. https://t.co/8NJAmjl8jj
