The WNBA is finally making efforts to sort out the longstanding CBA stalemate. As the initial deadline came on October 31, 2025, the authorities asked for a 30-day extension. Unfortunately, despite the additional timeline, no concrete plans were put into execution.
Now, the WNBA has proposed a 40-day extension. And along with it, they have also made some significant proposals to the athletes. In the recently rolled out contract offer, the authorities have offered a base salary of $1 million for the players.
Now, initially, the contract did look quite promising. But then, a detailed breakdown revealed that the latest CBA comes with housing cuts. Thus, trying to work a way around, the WNBA athletes have demanded 4 major reforms to be enforced.

What Are The Demands Of The WNBA Players?
With the revenue sharing ratio being a major issue, the league assured its players about sharing a total of 10-14% share of the overall revenue. And while no one knows whether the players will agree to it, they primarily want to rectify four major things in the contract offer.
As per the reports from Kareem Copeland, the athletes are not okay with the core and reserved contract designations. Next up, they also feel that the rookie-scale contracts are a bit lengthy and thus, they want to shorten them.

Another important point that the athletes have stressed is maternity leave for non-birthing parents. And last of all, they do want a more ‘meaningful’ retirement benefits. Surely, the players’ proposed clauses make it clear that things are far from sorted. However, despite all the back and forth going on, it looks like Cheryl Reeve is utterly confident about getting things back in place.
Cheryl Reeve Expresses Confidence in Sorting Out the CBA Stalemate
It has been a long time since the athletes have been asking for equal pay. The likes of Napheesa Collier called out the league leadership for a vast mismatch in the revenue sharing. She pointed out that while the NBA shares almost 49% of its revenue with the players, the WNBA has only 7%.

And all of this led to the potential threat of a work stoppage in the near future. But reflecting on the situation, Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve believes the situation will eventually return to normal.
“I think things are progressing, so you all know, progressing with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Everything that’s happening is the normal course of business. They will get a deal done. Very, very confident in that,” Reeve said.
