Nearing the deadline, the WNBA came up with a ‘generous’ offer for the WNBPA’s approval, with a salary of around $1.1 million on the table. While the maximum salary is considerably high in relation to the current value, the league is also willing to increase its minimum salary and subsequently the average wage for WNBA players.
Interestingly, the proposal includes a revenue-sharing model and also provides for future increments to ensure parity. However, according to reports, the players’ association is not satisfied with the offer, and an ESPN insider reveals the reason behind this dissatisfaction.

WNBA Players Seek Guaranteed Revenue-Sharing
The league’s popularity and expansion are reaching new highs as the WNBA Europe League is in serious discussions and could launch alongside NBA Europe in 2027. While the league is looking to expand globally, the players are also aiming for substantial increases in their deals and a fair share of the revenue.
In response to the current offer, ESPN’s Alexa Philippou noted that the players are somewhat confused about the revenue-sharing model the league is proposing, as they seek a model similar to the NBA’s to be part of the CBA.

Front Office Sport’s Annie Costabile added that the recent CBA for the 2025 provision included the possibility of getting revenue-sharing payments with respect to certain targets. The 2022 Bloomberg article states that WNBA players’ base salaries are just 9.3 per cent of the league’s annual revenue. That’s a far cry from what the NBA players get, which is about 44.74 per cent.

While revenue-sharing is becoming the buzzword for the CBA discussions, the league is also looking to stabilize the books and pay off debts, which is limiting its attempt to hand out handsome revenue percentages to players.
But this is not the first time the league has failed to implement the ‘desired’ changes in the CBA proposal. They needed an extension to work on the offer, while many players constantly talked about the association’s firm stance, and very recently, the league’s MVP also spoke on the topic.
A’ja Wilson Warned WNBA About WNBPA’s Strong Stance
After winning the 2025 WNBA championship, the superstar forward has been on many talk shows and podcast interviews. On the Good Morning America Show, Wilson answered questions about CBA negotiations and current situations. While the player sounded hopeful to see the deal going through, she once again emphasized the players’ demands.
“Obviously, we’re still pushing through. But I think for us, it’s just continue to stand on what we believe in and what it is to be a business, and how we handle ourselves. And I think when you’re thinking about a united front, it’s the WNBA. We’re not going to shake anything until we get what we want,” Wilson said.
It’s clear that the players and league have their differences regarding the revenue-sharing model and percentages. The league now has less than two weeks to rethink the demands and work on the possibilities.
