The WNBA has dropped its schedule for the 2026 season. And this has made the CBA situation even worse. Till now, the CBA deadline has been extended three times. On all three occasions, the WNBA failed to come up with a suitable offer for the players.
Thus, without addressing the basic concerns, the authorities’ release of a schedule made the players extremely angry. Soon after, the possibility of a lockout looked pretty evident in the upcoming days. Thankfully, in a bid to solve the issues, the WNBA and the WNBPA heads are all set to appear for a meeting.

Will The WNBA-WNBPA Meeting Solve The CBA Stalemate?
It has been a long time since the players have been fighting for equal pay issues. But up until now, the WNBA has shown no signs of abiding by the players’ demands. Now, in a final effort to sort things out, the WNBPA will be speaking to the WNBA in person, instead of making it over the phone.
Following the Unrivaled Philadelphia game, Kelsey Plum briefed about the meeting to The IX Sports. According to her statement, the two concerned parties have scheduled a meeting on Monday, February 2, 2026.
“I think we’ll learn a lot from this meeting,” Plum said. “I’m not trying to put it on the meeting, but this is a meeting that I think everyone understands what’s at stake. The league has their timelines; we as players understand what’s at stake. I always come into anything that I do with a great attitude, and I’m gonna see the best in this.”

The meeting is expected to have the WNBPA President, Nneka Ogwumike, Napheesa Collier, and Breanna Stewart in attendance. Surely, this meeting will be one of the biggest and most important face-offs between the two parties in recent times. It will be very interesting to see what comes out of the meeting since Ogwumike already termed the previous interactions as ‘unconstructive.’
Nneka Ogwumike Labeled WNBA-WNBPA Talks As ‘Unconstructive’

Less than 100 days remain for the start of the 2026 WNBA season. And instead of the players focusing on their practice, they are currently more worried about their pay scales. In fact, most are not even sure whether the season will start on time. Unhappy with how things have panned out, Ogwumike recently clarified that the lack of engagement is creating a big barrier.
“It’s not a constructive way to continue on these negotiations, especially considering the timeline that we’re in,” Ogwumike said.“To give the excuse that our proposal was not adequate is concerning.”
