It is almost time. With the players calling for equal pay since the start of the season, all eyes were on one particular date. October 31, 2025. This was when the CBA deadline was set to expire. And now, the WNBA legal advisor, Erin D. Drake, confirmed that CBA will miss the deadline.
Now, as per the speculations, the players have already pointed towards a possible work stoppage. And with the likes of Napheesa Collier lashing out vehemently at the WNBA leadership, a stoppage seems pretty much inevitable.
Collier and Cathy Engelbert’s rift has deepened amid a revenue-sharing conflict. However, in order to avoid any unpleasant situation, the WNBA has recently proposed an extension of the deadline.
Will CBA Extension Proposal Be Granted By WNBA Players?
According to reports from ESPN, the WNBA has recently asked the players to extend the deadline by 30 days following October 31. Now, if both sides agree to such an extension, it will minimize the risk of a work stoppage.

It would also allow both parties more time and flexibility to work towards reaching a mutual agreement. However, this isn’t the first time anyone has proposed such an extension. Back in 2019, when they finalized the last CBA agreement, both sides agreed to a 60-day extension after the initial deadline expired.

Thus, it will be interesting to see what happens now. According to a WNBA spokesperson, the WNBA “ have been negotiating with the Players Association in good faith and with urgency for several months with the goal of finalizing a new collective bargaining agreement as quickly as possible.”
Meanwhile, as the situation is looking tumultuous, Collier recently warned her mates about the risk of backing down.
Napheesa Collier Unwilling To Back Down From The CBA Rights
Collier has been at loggerheads with the WNBA leadership for a long time. During her exit interview, Collier publicly accused Engelbert of a lack of accountability. Now, the Lynx star has urged her teammates not to give in. She also made them realize the consequences if they backed down from their pleas.

“If we give in, we’re not only doing a disservice to us, we’re doing a disservice to where we have gotten in women’s sports,” Collier said. “We really have no choice but to stand strong again, not just for the present, but for the future of our league too.”
Surely, as the league misses the CBA deadline, the situation grows more vulnerable. Now, we’ll have to see what happens next.
