The ongoing exciting college season and the start of the Unrivaled League are keeping the basketball fan base busy. Still, there are worrying clouds around the WNBA, as the CBA talks hit a roadblock in late December with the league’s assessment of the players’ demands. Though the WNBPA disagreed on the league’s conclusion, it highlights the gap between the two parties.
Now, with just under a week remaining until the deadline, many key issues remain unresolved, making it difficult to reach a definitive resolution to the talks.
WNBA And Players Association Unable To Find Solution On Key Aspects
Ever since the WNBA season concluded in October, both sides have taken time for CBA discussions and have even agreed on extensions twice. Now, with just over four days remaining in the second extension period, there are reports regarding the unresolved points.
These unresolved points include three key factors: the revenue sharing percentage, the revenue sharing model, and the accountability of expenses. According to the league’s proposal, players would receive approximately 50% of the revenue, but the definition of revenue excludes expenses.
As negotiations over a new CBA near the Jan. 9 deadline, the WNBA and WNBPA remain far apart on several key issues: what a revenue sharing system should look like, what should be considered revenue & how to account for expenses.

The Association is not ready for such an idea and wants an NBA-style revenue-sharing model, with around 30% of the share in the same. The players’ association is ready for the strike, with the majority of the members backing their authorities to make the decision. President Nneka Ogwumike made it clear that the WNBPA wants the 2026 Season but also aims for a fair CBA after the strike vote.
While the situation is getting worse than expected, Caitlin Clark had earlier hinted at a solution that would resolve the issue.

Caitlin Clark Called For Compromises In WNBA-WNBPA Negotiations
With many young players in the training session for Team USA around mid-December, the media questioned Fever guard about her views on the ongoing CBA discussions. The player took the fans’ first approach and asked both sides to take a step back to reach an agreement.
Pointing out the possible lockout, the Fever guard said, “That’s what our fans crave — the product on the floor. That’s what the fans want to show up for. So, it’s business, and it’s a negotiation, and there has to be compromise on both sides. And we’re starting to get down to the wire of it.”

Amid all the chaos, fans want an answer to a simple question: ‘When will the WNBA 2026 schedule be released?’ But at the current stage, they might have to wait a little longer.
