The WNBA has been rising in its ranks for the last couple of years. However, with the cash flow increasing, things have gotten a little heated in the league. With Angel Reese hinting at a major role in CBA leadership, players have come up with a host of demands. And now, with the October 31 deadline approaching, things are looking entangled.
Unfortunately, officials are unlikely to consider most of the athletes’ demands. Thus, the risk of the deadline expiring without a concrete solution is becoming extremely high. From the looks of it, the deadline is likely to be extended beyond the scheduled date.
Tough Times Ahead For The WNBA As CBA Deadline Comes Closer
All the reports are hinting towards the fact that the October 31 deadline will have to be extended. Otherwise, the league will fail to reach a fruitful conclusion and might suffer a dent in its operations. Surely, after so many years, when the WNBA is booming, they would not want things to take a backseat. As per reports from Front Office Sports, the deadline extension is now a necessity for the league.

“The players are working diligently to achieve a transformational CBA that builds on the growth, momentum, and positive news surrounding women’s sports and the W. As we approach the 60-day mark, the league’s lack of urgency leaves players wondering if it is focused on making this work or just running out the clock. Fans do not want that. They are with the players in demanding a new standard for the W,” said the WNBPA Executive Director Terri Carmichael Jackson as quoted by Front Office Sports.

Well, there has been an official statement from the league as well. They have stated that the WNBA has been crystal clear in their conversation with the WNBPA. Elaborating their stance further, the league stressed that their main priority is to come to a new collective bargaining agreement. The league will do this by balancing the players’ demands with its long-term growth. Meanwhile, facing significant backlash from athletes, legend Candace Parker recently challenged WNBA athletes to step up. And following suit, Angel Reese issued a stern message on the CBA negotiations.

Angel Reese Wants The Revenue Shares From The WNBA
The WNBA athletes have been demanding equal pay for a long time. Coming to the All-Star game, they took things to a new level when athletes showed up wearing’Pay Us What You Owe Us’ t-shirts during warmups. One of the players’ major demands is equal pay with the NBA. For reference, the NBA provides a 50% revenue share to the likes of LeBron James.

On the contrary, the WNBA only offers a meagre 9%. Now with so much investment coming in, the athletes are not willing to back down. And reflecting the strong stance, Angel Reese recently shared a strong take. “The revenue shares, that’s really important for us. We deserve it. I know we’re not letting up. I know we’re going to do whatever it takes to get what we deserve,” Reese stated.
Surely, things are looking pretty complicated at the moment. With the deadline approaching, everyone is waiting to see what happens next.
