The WNBA season for 2026 is coming up shortly. Sadly, instead of being excited about the same, the players are in constant tension about whether the season will get underway. As a matter of fact, for the past fifteen months, the players have been calling for better revenue sharing along with equal pay. But the authorities seem to have turned a deaf ear.
Now then, with things looking problematic, the WNBPA recently held a face-to-face meeting with the WNBA. In a shocking manner, the WNBA did not come up with a fresh proposal in the meeting. This led the likes of Nneka Ogwumike to lash out at the leadership. And now, WNBPA secretary Elizabeth Williams has called for urgency.

WNBPA Secretary Elizabeth Williams Want Things To Be Solved Urgently
Williams was one of 40 players who attended the meeting with the WNBPA via Zoom. Currently in Europe playing for the Turkish club Galatasaray, Williams sat down in an interview with CBS Sports.
Speaking about the current state of affairs at the WNBA, the WNBPA secretary pointed out that it was the players who had an urgency to solve things. She also lashed out at the league for failing to understand the players’ sentiments. Thwarting all the efforts of the players to solve the stalemate, Williams also accused the authorities of having operated from their comfort zone.
“Yeah, I was a little surprised by that, especially knowing that players were going to be there in person. I think just having something would have been better than nothing. I do think as the conversation went on and the league side and ownership side could hear from people in person and hear the tone of why these issues matter, I think that helped the conversation, and I think it facilitated the level of urgency that’s needed,” said Williams.

Surely, the WNBPA secretary did not look satisfied with how things have been panning out in the league. Meanwhile, speaking on the topic, Breanna Stewart recently shared her honest opinion.
Breanna Stewart Gives A Fiery Response To Ongoing WNBPA-CBA Fiasco

With the situation looking sombre for a long time, it was Stewart who remained positive. She previously shared her take on how things will eventually fall into place. Unfortunately, following the in-person meeting with the authorities, Stewart looks infuriated.
“We have approved the strike authorization, which means that we are able to formally lock out whenever we want because we have majority of players’ votes behind us. For me, the closer it gets to WNBA season[…] we’re prepared to not play[…], but we want to play,” said Stewart.
