The CBA discussions have just over 72 hours left, and fans are already waiting for the next extension dates, looking at the current scenario. The Players’ Union and the league remain firm in their stance, putting their interests first over finalizing the CBA. Caitlin Clark earlier mentioned the need for ‘compromise’ to settle the differences, and once again spoke on a possible way to find the outcome of the deal. WNBPA VP Breanna Stewart also has a similar opinion.
Both players are currently at the USA Basketball Miami facility and preparing for the FIBA World Cup qualifiers. Although Stewart is not among the selected players, the veteran joined the camp to guide the rookies and team for the competition.

Breanna Stewart And Caitlin Clark Want To Fast-Track CBA Discussions
The league confirmed May 8 as the start date for the 2026 WNBA Season. With a lot of time already lost in CBA discussions, which halted free agency signings and the expansion draft, the deal needs to be on the floor at the earliest. Amid this ‘delay’, the WNBPA sent its counterproposal to the league on Friday. The details of the proposal are not out yet, nor has the WNBA worked on the same.
Clark chipped in with her idea to push the process, as she said, “I don’t understand why we don’t just get in a room and iron it out and shake hands. That’s how business is. You look each other in the eye, you shake hands, you respect both sides. For me, that’s what I would love to see.”

Caitlin Clark and Breanna Stewart shared their thoughts on what they believe could help get a deal done, one of those ideas being a marathon negotiation.

Vice President Breanna Stewart also shares the same views and said, “I think that would be great for us all to sit in a room until we really get it done. If that means sitting in there for hours and hours at a time, let’s do it. That’s for the better of the player. While a situation like that has never happened before, there’s a first time for everything.”

Ironically, ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne floated a similar idea weeks ago, mentioning that Nneka Ogwumike can seal the deal single-handedly. One thing that rocked the WNBA fans was the ‘rift’ among the WNBPA committee, with Kelsey Plum and Liberty forward submitting concerns via a letter.
Breanna Stewart Opened Up On Leaked Letter
The WNBPA received strong support from nearly every players’ union in the country and even voted nearly unanimously against the committee’s decisions. This unity served as an example for many until a letter from the top two members highlighted cracks within the PA.
Talking about the letter, Stewart said, “That letter was supposed to be in private. Plum and I had some concerns we wanted to address with Terri and get the entire executive committee back on track, just making a path forward to get the best deal possible. It was unfortunate that became public knowledge.”

She showed complete backing for the WNBPA’s decisions and trust in the leaders to get a suitable deal for the players.
