Even though the Las Vegas Aces had a rough start to the season, they bounced back with a franchise record unbeaten run and finished the season as the WNBA Champions. A’ja Wilson was at the heart of this revival, who went on to claim the regular season MVP and Finals MVP titles.
Her dominance on the floor mesmerized every basketball fan. Dwyane Wade even claimed that Wilson can beat NBA players in a one-on-one matchup. While this is massive praise for the 29-year-old forward, she highlighted one player who gives her a tough time playing against.
A’ja Wilson Names Toughest To Guard WNBA Player
The Las Vegas Aces shut the critics down with their controlled postseason performance. The title win was a very inspiring one for the Aces’ fans. The team’s leading scorer was pumped up after the championship win and had a special surprise for the supporters during the championship parade.

Wilson showed up in her Thanos-inspired parade outfit, which fans found very appropriate. Yet, in a recent podcast interview, the 29-year-old named Breanna Stewart as her toughest opponent. On the Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce Podcast, Wilson said, “I’m gonna always say Breanna Stewart. I’m gonna always say Stewie. Only because Stewie is just, she’s a three-level scorer. And the way that she plays the game is so tough to read, because she’s that skillful.”

“When I’m thinking about how to guard her, how to make it hard for her — because some players, you’re just like, ‘Okay, force it to their bad hand. You can live with it’ — but Stewie is completely different. You really have to be able to know how and when she’s gonna score the basketball. And that’s super, super tough,” Wilson added.

She even mentioned that sometimes she gets bored in midgame, but with the Liberty star against her, she had to stay alert all the time, and even though the Liberty star is tough to play against, she loves to challenge.
A’ja Wilson has a slightly better regular-season head-to-head record against Stewart (9-6), while Stewart holds a better playoff record (4-3). Both are dominant players with similar accolades in the league. For her development into an elite professional, the Aces’ star credits her college coach.
A’ja Wilson Praises Dawn Staley For Her South Carolina Upbringing
For her tremendous achievement in the WNBA, the South Carolina program inducted the four-time WNBA MVP into the Hall of Fame recently. During the speech, she credited her college coach, Dawn Staley, for all the development she showed throughout her career.
“She’s instilled so much in us, and how to carry yourself, how to have a great attitude, how to be great in the locker room. I’m glad that I’m a student of hers, um, a player of hers, probably a daughter of hers, because she’s really instilled all of that,” Wilson said.
While Staley already called Wilson GOAT in women’s basketball, she also named another student, Aliyah Boston, as future MVP. South Carolina really produced two of the best forwards in the league.
