The Chicago Sky had a torrid season, not only because of their poor record but also because of the ‘Angel Reese controversy’ that overshadowed their season’s conclusion. Now, with the new season approaching, the franchise will be looking for some positives from the 2025 season. The one could be Ajsa Sivka’s form.
Sadly, it was not for the Windy City franchise. Sivka shone for the Slovenian national team and Tarbes Gespe Bigorre, as she delayed her WNBA debut to prioritize national duty and her graduation. Currently playing for Joventut Badalona, the star showcased what the Chicago franchise missed in the 2025 season.
While assistant coach Shimmy Grey-Miller warns the Chicago Sky about the risks of losing Angel Reese in the offseason, the franchise could look for different options at the forward position, and the 19-year-old could be the solution.
Chicago Sky’s Ajsa Sivka Shines At European League
In the 2025 season, the forward rookie duo of Reese-Cardoso ran the games for the Sky near the rim. While coach Tyler Marsh tried to turn Chi-Town Barbie into a wing-playing forward, the attempt failed miserably. However, the addition of the Slovenian star would now solve the problem.

Recently, in the EuroBasket competition, Sivka showcased her range, netting seven three-pointers in a game against Estudiantes. Earlier, she scored 16 points against Spar Gran Canaria with four three pointers and 6-of-9 shooting. She is the third-highest scorer on the team.

6’4 combo forward — amazing positional size & high-level shooting skill (C&S, movement). Possesses on-ball scoring potential. Good cutter. Very active hands defensively.
Needs to improve her physicality but the Chicago Sky got themselves a special talent in Sivka. https://t.co/4ZaB9gk6lu pic.twitter.com/mBEvGdf876

One aspect in which she showed incredible potential is her ability to drive to the basket, catch, and shoot, often from midrange. The Chicago Sky will be happy to welcome her in the upcoming season and use her effectively.
But that’s only one player for Marsh’s team; the team needs much more than that to compete against the top sides in the WNBA.
Chicago Sky Looking to Bounce Back From Disappointing Season
The addition of Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso excited the fans in 2024. Though both had good rookie seasons, fans expected a better run in 2025. But the results were even more disappointing. Additionally, there is a risk of losing their only All-Star from the roster.
Kamilla Cardoso brushes off concerns about Angel Reese’s potential Chicago Sky exit and continues to look for ‘self-improvement. She was one of the top players from the previous season available in 2026, but other veteran players, such as Aerial Atkins and Vandersloot, could leave the team in the offseason.
This puts the side in rebuilding mode with only two promising rookies in hand. They don’t have much pull to attract any top talent to the franchise, which makes it even more difficult for the team to have a strong veteran squad. Their only hope rests on the draft picks and a possible acquisition of an experienced guard who could lead the side to glory, unless they keep hold of AR5.
