The Indiana Fever has been struck with a lot of negatives this season. One of the biggest highlights of the season was the unavailability of Caitlin Clark due to her groin injury. It had such a widespread impact that NBA legend LeBron James issued an inspiring message to Clark. And if that was not enough, several other prominent Fever stars too, made their entries into the injury list. Thankfully, with a depleted squad running the risk of elimination, the likes of Aliyah Boston stepped up to save the day.
Fever had been playing without the likes of Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson, Sophie Cunningham, and more. Slumping into a dark phase, the playoff expectations for the Fever looked all but gone. And that is when Boston decided to create her magic.
Aliyah Boston Makes Her Mark In ESPN Rankings
The 23-year-old has been having a phenomenal season this year. Only recently, Wilson made history with a stellar performance against the Storm. With the playoffs coming in, the onus will be on the Fever star to lead the Clark-less team to a deep playoff run. Thankfully, Boston’s impressive play has earned her a well-deserved climb up the ESPN rankings.

ESPN recently released a list of the twenty-five best players in the league. While the top two spots went to A’ja Wilson and Napheesa Collier, good news came in for Boston. As per the rankings, she has now climbed up to the 11th rank. Boasting a stat line of 15.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, the 23-year-old has put on a brave effort.

Behind Kelsey Mitchell, Boston has been the second-most impactful player in the Fever lineup this year. With Clark unavailable, there were questions on how well the WNBA star would fare, especially when she heavily relied on Clark for pick-and-roll. Thankfully, all those doubts were put to bed. In the past 10 games, Boston has been averaging 14.2 points and 8.3 rebounds. Meanwhile, despite putting up a brave show, there has been one thing that Boston is not okay with. And that is the WNBA officiating.

Aliyah Boston Expresses Discontent Regarding WNBA Officiating
WNBA officiating has been one of the major talking points this year. With the likes of Natalie Nakase and Stephanie White lashing out, there has been significant discussion about the same. Now, adding further fuel to the controversy was Boston. Back in August, the Fever star sat down with Candace Parker to discuss the same. Criticizing the inconsistency of the officials, the 23-year-old stated it was confusing trying to make out why one call was made and the other was ignored.

“I feel everyone’s kind of looking for consistency. Sometimes it is hard to find your groove. Because you’re always like, ‘ooh, are they calling that one?’ I get told, ‘Don’t fade away because then they’re not going to call it.’ But then my opponent fades away, and then it’s like a foul because you weren’t A to B, and I’m like, I don’t understand anymore. I don’t understand,” Boston said.
Well, now that Boston is getting the limelight, she must look to utilize it fully. With the playoffs coming up, Fever fans will be highly expectant of a bright performance from Boston.
