Candace Parker has been an absolute legend in the women’s basketball realm. Despite Parker getting paid a meagre $12 from the WNBA, her intent on the court did not diminish a bit. And it is for the same reason that the 39-year-old has made some impeccable records to her name.
One among them was the very first woman to dunk in an NCAA tournament game. Now, previously, Aliyah Boston has broken some of the 3-time WNBA champion’s records. But realizing the gravity of what her dunk meant for women’s sports back then, Boston was thrilled.

Aliyah Boston Out Of Words To Praise Candace Parker’s Heroic Achievement
Conversing with Parker in an episode of the ‘Post Moves’ podcast, Boston realized something. About 20 years ago, her co-host recorded the first dunk in NCAA history as a woman. Such a realization immediately thrilled her.
“You made history as the first woman to dunk in an NCAA tournament game. Bang! Like, what do you remember most? Like, was that, like, lit? Like, when you were, you were, you were like, oh, I’m about to do this,” said Boston.

Reacting to her achievement, the 2016 WNBA Finals MVP seemed very humble. Initially, she wanted to shrug it off by commenting that the feat is now twenty years old. But when her Indiana Fever co-host pressed, the WNBA legend gave a little sneak peek into what went down on the historic day.

Parker stated how she loved her breakaway the most. Without knowing that a defender was on her heels, the 7-time WNBA All-Star went up for the throwdown and successfully achieved it. Surprisingly, a few minutes later, she did it again. Coming in from the halfcourt, Parker made a back cut to drop her second dunk in the game.
Meanwhile, as the WNBA realm celebrates the occasion, here are the details of what actually happened in the game.
Candace Parker Made Sean McDonough Shout On-Air With Consecutive Dunks
Back in 2006, second seeded Tennessee Volunteers met the 15th-seeded Army in their first-round game. At one point, the Army gave up a turnover to Sydney Spencer, who quickly tossed the ball to Parker. Within three seconds, the 2013 WNBA All-Star Game MVP completed a highlight reel dunk on the fastbreak.
Thrilled to watch such a sight, play-by-play commentator McDonough exclaimed, “You’re thinking about a dunk… THERE IT IS.”
And 20 minutes later, she did it again. With less than ten minutes left, Parker played a one-two with Nicky Anosike, made a back cut on the baseline, and delivered the second dunk of the evening.
Thus, having changed the dynamics of women’s sports forever, Parker will forever remain a shining example of greatness in the WNBA.
