The WNBA-WNBPA CBA discussion is still hovering around the revenue share and salary structure, which had been the issue right from the start. As Caitlin Clark hinted at the ‘compromising’ for the deal, both parties move from their original stance, yet they are far from reaching common ground.
Amid this, the Unrivaled fanbase showed support for the players, with ‘play the players’ chants filling up the Barclays Center. Even though the league or franchise pay players handsomely in the upcoming season, there is still one issue, which a WNBA analyst pointed out in her recent podcast video.

WNBA’s Max Salary Rule Worries Caitlin Clark And Indiana Fever
WNBA is looking to keep the rookies happy, fast-tracking their salaries to the maximum salary if they are either on the first or second team all-league teams. As for the Indiana Fever, Caitlin Clark was part of the 2024 first All-WNBA team, while Aliyah Boston also earned a spot in the 2025 season, making them eligible for the max salary contract.
Rachael DeMita opened up a probable issue that the Fever team might have from the 2027 season. In her latest video, she said, “Caitlin Clark is eligible to be that max contract player because of this new rule in 2027. So that is the player if you’re the Indiana Fever, if you’re any franchise, for that matter. I would assume Caitlin Clark would get that priority to become your max contract player, your franchise player. She is already the face of the league.”
Adding to her point, she said, “There are two top players who will be eligible for a max contract this season. This season, both Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston could become max contract salary players in 2026. But here’s the catch: only one player currently knows how the salary structure is that could get the max contract. So this is where it exactly starts getting tricky for some of these teams.”

The Fever franchise is looking to keep its core intact for the upcoming season, and with all three players eligible for the Max salary, the side will face a challenge for the front office. Ironically, fans also criticized the WNBA’s cap structure in recent posts.
While the front office will take the tough call, it will be hoping to see the max salary rule removed from the final CBA terms. As for the player, she is focusing on her upcoming international duty.
