Angel Reese’s Chicago Sky has been eliminated from the playoffs. But that has not stopped her from grabbing the headlines. The 23-year-old has had a timid season this year. Suffering from a lingering back injury, Reese had to sit on the sidelines for a chunk of the season. And this became quite a factor for the Sky faltering in their bid to push for the playoffs. Now then, despite the dark clouds of gloom hovering, the Sky star has announced a new signature shoe colorway.
Chi-Town Barbie recently made history by teaming up with Reebok. Since she already announced the drop of her new sneakers, the brand recently unveiled a special color. And while it was pretty eye-catching, Reese also had a secret motivation to choose the same.
Angel Reese Honors Her Roots With Latest Sneaker Colorway
Reese and Reebok collaborated to launch the Angel Reese 1 sneaker. While the design was already creating a lot of hype, the latest color option is bound to skyrocket the hype further. According to the latest reports, the brand will release a purple edition of the Angel Reese 1 sneakers. And this color is especially designed to honor the Baltimore roots of the 2024 rookie.

It was Baltimore that transformed the Chi-town Barbie from a young athlete to worldwide superstar sporting icon. Speaking about the initiative, the 23-year-old stated, “This one’s for Charm City, to honor my roots and the community of Baltimore that has backed me from day one. This city gave me my grit and made me who I am today.

Surely, this is good news for Reese’s fans. However, as per the reports, fans will have to wait a bit longer to grab the special edition version. Initially, the sneaker is set to drop three colorways on September 18, 2025. The available colors will be ‘Receipts Ready,’ ‘Mebounds,’ and ‘Diamond Dust.’ But for those looking to grab the purple colorway, the scheduled date of release for the same will be in October 2025. It will be available at a price of $120. Meanwhile, as Reese celebrates, things are looking quite bleak for the Sky. But even after all the negativities, coach Tyler Marsh recently spoke about ‘morale victory.’

Angel Reese’s Coach Talks About Sky’s Morale Victory
The 23-year-old rookie star has been phenomenal this season in whatever little opportunities she got. As a result, Angel Reese’s historic rookie feat shone bright despite Sky’s plummet. But despite her fine showing, the team had lost some crucial games. But that has not deterred head coach Tyler Marsh from looking at the positives. Speaking about the same, Marsh pointed out how his team fought till the very end in every game. And that, for him, was a moral victory.

“I think in most situations, it’s hard to see the moral victory sometimes, but I think that the level of competition, the way that they’re continuing to fight, they way that they’re continuing to stay together, I think that speaks to one, their professionalism, but two, their trust and belief in what we’re doing,” said Marsh.
Surely, Chicago has shown some promise lately. They even pulled off an upset by defeating the defending champions, the New York Liberty. Thus, with some proper fine-tuning, Sky might as well emerge as a top contender for next season’s WNBA championship run.
