Just as Project B shared updates on the number of players joining the league around the end of the 2025 season, they have now started mentioning the next players added to the list. Interestingly, Project B started with naming Nneka Ogwumike as its first player joining the league, the veteran star and WNBPA president; they started with the ‘budding’ talent, Awa Fam, right before the WNBA draft.
The league released a statement on the Spaniard’s addition, and the player also confirmed her decision via email to the AP.

Awa Fam Joins Project B Ahead Of 2026 WNBA Draft
Although Project B is set to start in December 2026, the league is already generating a lot of buzz among fans with its ‘timely’ updates around the WNBA activities. Now, signing a probable first-round pick, the league once again made its presence felt.
In a peculiar manner, Project B announced the addition of Awa Fam to the league as the social media post reads, “PLAYER. PARTNER. OWNER. Awa Fam.”

Fam also confirmed the news via email to Associated Press and wrote, “I’m really excited. Any time you get the chance to be part of something new and competitive, it’s special. Project B feels like a place where the game is continuing to grow, and I’m grateful to be part of that from the beginning. What stood out to me was the vision. It’s about high-level basketball, but also about investing in players and pushing the women’s game forward. That combination made it an easy decision for me.”

Interestingly, the Project B tour has Valencia, Spain, as one of the stops from March 12-22, 2027. The forward impressed everyone playing for Valencia and Spain in the recent FIBA World Cup Qualifiers. In the recent interview, though, Fam’s agent clarified “top priority” amid speculation about her participation in the 2026 WNBA draft, where she is one of the candidates for the top pick.
Awa Fam Vs Azzi Fudd For Top Pick In 2026 WNBA Draft
The recent WNBA mock Draft shows UConn superstar Azzi Fudd going as the top pick in 2026. While the player proved her worth and capability to earn the prestigious selection, there are a few points supporting Fam’s case for the position.
As good as Fudd is right now, the player has size limitations and a build to overpower opponents. Also, the Wings are looking forward to impacting the game alongside Paige Bueckers, who is a great shot creator.
The 19-year-old star has a longer development window. Also, she is a 6’5 big with switchability, passing chops, and shooting projection. Idolizing A’ja Wilson, Fam is also looking to imitate the Aces’ superstar on the floor. Now consider having a Wilson-like player around Paige Bueckers and select your top pick.
