The UConn Huskies are ready for their final Big East game of the 2025-26 season, with the side aiming for a confidence booster ahead of their National Championship title defence. The player in focus will be Azzi Fudd, who is the probable top pick in the 2026 WNBA draft, reuniting her with former Huskies’ star Paige Bueckers.
While that could be a positive side of her move to the pro level, the player will be leaving the program she was part of for the last five years, and the feeling is starting to gather as she takes the court for the final time at the Big East final.

Azzi Fudd’s Bittersweet Admission
The UConn Huskies are on a 47-game winning run and are favorites to retain the title defence. Fudd also talked about UConn’s calm confidence after a perfect 31-0 season clinch, but on the personal level, there is a feeling of playing for the last time in a UConn Jersey that is slowly gripping her.
When asked about it, in the pre-game interview, the 22-year-old star said, “It’s weird to think that’s my last time going to Mohegan with UConn on my chest, but it’s bittersweet knowing that it’s March. I’m so excited with this team, but knowing that this is the last little bit.”

Fudd is having the best year of her career, averaging 17.9 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.6 rebounds, making a strong case for the Naismith Player of the Year title, too. Even though there is tough competition for the accolade, the player is focused on the task at hand and looks to leave the program as a national champion again.

Last season, many saw Paige Buckers holding on to Geno Auriemma in the NCAA final game as she bade adieu to the program. Will that be the case for the versatile guard? The player already envisioned the scenario.
Azzi Fudd Prepares Herself For Leaving UConn Huskies
Leaving a successful program where any athlete gave her heart, sweat, and blood is never easy, and the Virginia native is no different. But she prepared herself over the year as she narrated the story in an interview.
Fudd said, “It’s like, I want to be in the UConn hallway with you and with everyone else. But I’m really not thinking about it. I’m not on social media too much to avoid seeing that and just hearing all the outside voices because I’ve seen with all my past teammates how easy it is to be consumed by that and be consumed by what’s next.”
“I’m going to miss as much as I might complain. In two months, I’m going to be like, I wish I had a walk, I wish I had a team dinner. So, I’m really trying not to think too much of what’s going to happen after because I also can’t control it,” she added.
As much as the program missed its past champions, she will also be one of the all-time favourite stars for the most successful franchise in NCAAW.
