The UConn Huskies are set for their title defence with the March Madness brackets out. Texas, UCLA and South Carolina are the other four top teams that will look to challenge Geno Auriemma and his team’s dominance in the season. But Coach Auriemma can rely on his star player, Azzi Fudd, who recently spoke about ‘focus’.
The player already created history, becoming only the fourth UConn star to hit 100 three-pointers in a season, and is aiming for the national championship now. The key aspect she felt in her final season was focus, and she achieved the same by staying away from the noise.

Azzi Fudd Keeps Distractions Away
After Paige Bueckers’ departure, the next star in line at the UConn Huskies was Fudd, who received massive media coverage. During a recent interview, the reporter asked her about the secret of dealing with such attention.
Answering the question, Fudd said, “This year, I haven’t really been on Instagram. I feel like I go on TikTok, and my TikTok is anything but basketball… Other than that, I’ve tried my best to stay off of that, so I wouldn’t have to see all the different noise from media and what people were saying, whether it’s about the team, about me, about the draft. It’s so easy to get distracted. But I found that it’s just so peaceful. It really helps you stay present and focused.”

Her impressive numbers and impact on the floor back her claim as the player is having a career-high season with 17.7 points average, three assists, and 2.6 rebounds. Many even have her to be the top pick in the upcoming WNBA draft, with Dallas possibly reuniting her with Paige Bueckers.

Even before making her pro-level debut, the player is already making a lot of buzz in the WNBA, and recently, Sophie Cunningham made the UConn star the most desirable player from the talented pack.
Sophie Cunningham Bets On Azzi Fudd
With a deep WNBA draft class, there is always a question of who will go as a top pick. For the 2026 WNBA draft, many eyes are on the 22-year-old guard, with forward pair Lauren Betts and Awa Fam also making a strong case for the first overall pick.
During her podcast, Cunningham weighed in with her views and mentioned that Lauren Betts needs some work to do, but praised Fudd for the top pick. She said, “That’s a great question. I think I would—I think Azzi would be good. I think that she is very dynamic, she can shoot, she’s a smart player, she’s a team player.”
She also mentioned that Fudd is on everyone’s wish-list, and she deserves to be so. As per the schedule, the WNBA draft will be on April 13, and the league will be looking ahead to welcoming top talents.
