The Huskies stayed hot and undefeated with their recent win over Notre Dame. This clinches the 30th final four berth for Geno Auriemma’s side, as he has taken 25 different teams to the final four games. Azzi Fudd had an ‘off game’ by her standards, but is still two wins away from her second National Championship.
Making her plays count, the 22-year-old guard spoke about many topics, including Kyrie Irvine attending the game. The Dallas Mavericks star shares a close bond with Geno Auriemma and congratulated the coach after the win before leaving.
Although Fudd didn’t get a chance to meet and interact with Irvine, she acted cool about it and gave her reaction in the interview. Interestingly, the recent mock draft shows Fudd going to the Dallas franchise.

Azzi Fudd ‘Normalizes’ Kyrie Irving Attending UConn Huskies Game
When asked about her reaction to watching the 2016 NBA Champion in the building, the Huskies megastar mentioned that she didn’t know he was in the crowd until the final moments, which was a good thing for her, and praised him and women’s sports in her answer.
She said, “It’s amazing to have a legend like him in the crowd, cheering us, or cheering just women’s basketball. I think that just goes to show how far women’s sports have come. For him to come and show support, it means a lot.”

Irvine offered support and guidance for Paige Bueckers as she attended the Mavs preseason game during the offseason. Now, if Fudd joins the Wings, she would also get some support and tips from the wizard guard.
On to the NCAA games, though the Huskies showed their discontent with the NCAA bracket and the change of system that impacts players’ games.
Azzi Fudd Not Happy With NCAA
Just before the Elite Eight game against Notre Dame, coach Geno Auriemma criticized the NCAA tournament format while calling for major changes in the two-conference system for venues. He mentioned that there is no practice time and space for players, and it impacts their overall game.

Fudd also sided with her coach and said, “I would just say it’s not ideal. Like the schedule, [we’re] waking up early to do media and then can’t come back to this arena until later, just little things like that. …There’s no excuse in that, so we’ll figure it out. We’re making it work, but it definitely isn’t the most ideal setup.”
In the game against Notre Dame, she struggled to score, going 5-for-12 and finishing with just 13 points. She even had five turnovers in the game, which is much unlike the People’s Princess.
