The UConn Huskies coach, Geno Auriemma, might have doubts about the current roster surpassing last year’s championship squad. The 2025-26 UConn Huskies team is actually rewriting history. The side went undefeated and added a Conference tournament title. The side also has its stars nominated for multiple awards available in the NCAAW D1 category. And at the heart of this dominance are Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong.
As per the recent update, the duo also created another history with their performances in the season and earned a rare feat for the UConn side.

Azzi Fudd And Sarah Strong Earn USBWA First Team All-American Honor
The UConn Huskies not only stayed undefeated in the season, but their victories told stories of their command on the floor. Coach Auriemma has many times used his second unit to close out games, highlighting the depth on the roster and the quality of the first team.
Sarah Strong led the team in multiple stats, including points, rebounds, steals and blocks, while Fudd also contributed heavily, delivering her career-best season. For their production and efficiency, the duo earned a place in the writers association for the First-Team All-American side.

Interestingly, the last time any UConn duo achieved this feat was with Napheesa Collier and Katie Lou Samuelson, who led the team to an undefeated regular season in 2017. Apart from the UConn duo, other players who earned the honor are Lauren Betts of UCLA, Mikayla Blakes from Vanderbilt and Hannah Hidalgo from Notre Dame.

The key aspect of Fudd and Strong’s success is team chemistry and sync on the floor, making each and every possession count for the defending champions. The sophomore star also opened up on the connection with her senior guard, which allowed the team to get the best out of both players.
Sarah Strong Feels Closer Bond With Azzi Fudd This Season
During the 2024-25 season, the fresher forward was impactful but played a more individualistic game than her current gameplay. Fudd also observed the change and even praised Strong for the improvement in her game. The pair also shared a strong chemistry, with their playful sibling squabbles often going viral.
Talking about this connection, Strong said, “It’s grown a lot since last year. Just hanging out with her and know her more. And practicing like two-on-two with her against some of the practice players. What she likes to do, what she likes the ball.”
