The UConn Huskies are still one of the favorites to win the NCAA Championship and earned the top spot in the standings without Paige Bueckers. Geno Auriemma kept the core of the team the same, with Azzi Fudd and Sarah Srong leading the back-court and front-court, respectively.
Fudd, in particular, will be on the radar of many WNBA teams, as she plays in her final college season as a senior. Former UConn star Sue Bird advised Fudd to soak in her last NCAA moment. It seems that the player took her advice too seriously, as cameras caught her having a friendly Squabble during a game against Florida State.
Azzi Fudd And Sarah Strong’s Sideline Exchange Goes Viral
While the duo was an essential piece in the 2025 championship run, they also formed a close bond. The 2025 final four MOP had a great season, leading the side to the championship, while Sarah controlled the paint region.

The start of the 2025-26 season has been great for the side, and the pair is enjoying a 2-0 start. During the recent game against the Florida State Seminoles, they were seen in a playful sibling squabble. Fans loved their chemistry as the video already had over 154K views within hours.

Interestingly, Fudd had similar bickering with Paige last season, which caught fans’ attention. The star is continuing the tradition as she looks to follow the footsteps of the Dallas Wings’ rookies. As per reports, Azzi Fudd is among 14 NCAA stars signing the Unrivaled NIL deals, even making it to the WNBA.

For the UConn, though, Fudd and co. will have intense competition. HC Geno Auriemma also admitted a change in strategy and requested patience with the new side for the 2025-26 season.
Azzi Fudd Talks About New Season Without Paige Bueckers
While the People’s Princess played without Bueckers when PB was out injured for a season, the recent season is different. The side entered the season as the country’s top team and a strong contender for the championship (yet again). Many teams are looking to dethrone Geno Auriemma’s program as the ‘dominators’ in the college women’s basketball.

The UConn senior spoke about the season opener. She said, “This team is super different than last year, even though it was only a few different pieces. But I think what those pieces bring are so valuable. Tonight was a lot of fun. … I think as the season goes on and we continue to build our chemistry and learn how to keep playing well together and what our strengths are, it’s going to be even more fun and really special.”
With the pressure of defending the championship and playing without the superstar guard, the youngster will aim to make her mark on the program’s illustrious history.
