The college basketball season is entering its mid-phase, and the standings are shaping up for the NCAA tournament. While teams are moving up in the rankings, players in their final season are also moving up in the WNBA draft prospects. Currently, Azzi Fudd is leading the charts in many draft projections.
At the start of the season, Fudd broke down how Geno Auriemma’s words led to her WNBA draft decision. But now, as the games and numbers are backing her to be the top pick, the player is making herself ready for the ‘uncertain future’.

Azzi Fudd Opens Up On Her WNBA Draft Strategy
The UConn Huskies are an unstoppable team at the moment in the league, with the 2025 MVP and Sarah Strong keeping the opposition at bay. Fudd even praises UConn teammate Sarah Strong’s continued improvement. But on the personal front, the player will be in talks for the 2026 WNBA draft, and after her heroic performances, she is one of the top stars in the discussion.
Talking about her future, Fudd said, “I’ve been very intentional this year about not letting myself get wrapped in the future and what’s next. I don’t have a say in where I get to go, so no matter what team drafts me, there are going to be pros and cons to each. And I’ll be sure to find the pros in all of it.”

Chiney Ogwumike Backs Azzi Fudd To Be No. 1 Pick
ESPN prepared the draft board for the WNBA franchises, which looks like a ‘guideline’ for the teams. On the NBA Today show, Chiney Ogwumike was ready with her analysis and reasons for the Wings to select the UConn guard.
Ogwumike said, “One thing that translates in the WNBA is shooting. I would not be surprised if Azzi Fudd is the number one pick. She’s someone that’s leading them in scoring so far and has had multiple games with multiple threes. So she’s a shooter, and that’s good.”

Nice midrange pull-up J WITHOUT the use of a screen. For a player who projects to be a prolific 3PT shooter in the W, it’s these types of quick moves that bode well for her ability to consistently attack closeouts…pic.twitter.com/GcgvRwOEj3
While teaming up with Paige Buckers is an added perk to such a situation, Fudd could really fit in on any side with her gameplay.
