The 2025 WNBA All-Star game had all the fun elements. Players were showing their skills and having a great time with their teammates and opponents. Fans loved the atmosphere and joined in large numbers. Local star and global icon Caitlin Clark was out of court action, nursing her injury, but she was involved in every play.
While many saw her on-court coaching, celebrations, and disappointments, many might have missed her ‘tactical recruiting’. Yes, CC was looking to add an All-Star to her star-studded roster for the 2026 season.
Caitlin Clark With Six-Word Recruitment Pitch
The annual mega event was at Gainbridge Fieldhouse Arena. Home of the Indiana Fever did everything to make every player feel comfortable during the All-Star weekend. After the All-Star Game, New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu posted a photo on Instagram of her sitting with Clark in the locker room.
The caption read, “4th All-Star appearance in the books. Nothing short of Grateful!” with a ‘joy’ emoji. A simple message to show her appreciation for the event and hosting. The Fever guard took the opportunity, liked the post, and commented, “Looking real natural in that locker room.“

Interestingly, CC’s reference to the locker room and mention of ”real natural” hint at a possible big move in the upcoming offseason. The 2024 WNBA champion will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the current season.
The Indiana Fever took a bold step, signing championship-experienced players at the end of the 2024 season. The intention was clear – to build a team around their 2024 Rookie of the Year winner. With CC (contract till 2027), Aliyah Boston (contract till 2026), and Makayla Timpson (contract till 2028) having only guaranteed spots in the next season, they could offer a lucrative contract to the 28-year-old sharp-shooter.

Caitlin Clark-Sabrina Ionescu Could Make Indiana Fever Title Favorites
Despite adding some firepower in the 2025 season, the Indiana franchise struggled to dominate the league and currently stands sixth with a 12-11 record. Adding the former Oregon star alongside playmaker Clark will provide them with a strong guard pairing. It is also interesting to know that the three-point shooting champion was CC’s second choice in the All-Star draft behind her teammate Aliyah Boston.
The good part about the possible link-up is that both players have a great relationship. They also have mutual respect for each other. During Iowa Star’s current injury woes, Sab showed her support and encouragement, citing her initial days in the league.

“Obviously, we’re good friends. I’ve been able to talk to her a lot through this process. And honestly, I kind of went through something similar in my career. You look back, and it’s a blessing in disguise because you’re able to just learn and grow, and understand it’s all part of your journey,” the Liberty star said of Clark, per an X post from Robin Lundberg.
If the Fever could land the Liberty’s prized asset, they and fans might have to thank CC for her initial pitch to Ionescu.
