Even though the Indiana Fever holds on to an 18-14 record in the league, the actual testing time is just a month away. The 2025 season is entering the playoff phase, and teams are making a push for a favorable standing. Without Caitlin Clark, the side is fifth in the league, which is not good enough for home-court advantage.
In ESPN’s power ranking, the side drops to sixth position, with only the Las Vegas Aces taking over their place in the top five. Will the team survive without CC?
The Indiana Fever’s Tough Road Ahead Without Caitlin Clark
So far, the fans have been waiting for the 2024 rookies’ return to action. There are no positive signs as of now. The team won nine games out of a possible 19 without its playmaker. But wins over struggling Connecticut Sun, Chicago Sky, and Dallas Wings won’t count in the playoffs.
With 13 games remaining in the league, three of which against the top side, the Minnesota Lynx, Stephanie White’s side’s path ahead looks rough. Considering their struggles without a designated guard, it would be a great achievement if they could hang on to fifth position with 50% of their remaining matches against the teams ranked above them.

Moreover, their losses against the Valkyries and the LA Sparks highlight their shortcomings against strong defensive teams. Looking at A’ja Wilson’s Aces and Brittney Griner’s Atlanta Dream’s current run of form, these two teams are even stronger competitors for the Fever.
This is, of course, without Caitlin Clark’s inclusion in the rotation. The scene could be completely different with the 2024 top pick’s availability.

No Clear Sign Of Caitlin Clark’s Return
The players like Sophie Cunningham and Aliyah Boston talked about former Iowa star’s impact on the games. While even the tea is looking to it’s superstar back on the floor, there are no encouraging updates from them yet.
“No return to practice as of late. She’s been able to get a little more in her full-court running. You know, with all her body weight, it’s really building up from doing minimal to then building some endurance to do longer periods of time. She’s been able to do a little bit more on the court in terms of how she moves. But not into practice yet, no,” HC Stephanie White told the media.

The Fever side signed Odyssey Sims as backup point guard and will be able to keep her till the end of the season, even with Clark’s return. If she fits in as well as Aari McDonald, the Fever could be in line for a deep run in the postseason.
