It looks pretty mechanical now. The long-lofted pass with no player in the camera frame, yet landing perfectly to the intended teammate in stride. Caitlin Clark perfected this and often uses it in the fast break.
In the recent game against the Wings, CC again showed her range of passing with a one-dribble full-court assist to Sophie Cunningham. It was an easy basket for the 28-year-old forward and a record-setting assist for the guard.

The play began with the Fever rookie making a crucial stop at the defensive end. She swatted JJ Quinerly’s layup attempt. Aliyah Boston picked up the loose ball and passed it back to CC. Keeping one eye on the runners ahead, the former Iowa guard delivered a sweet dime for Cunningham.

Even though it was just over seven minutes left in the second quarter, this was already her seventh assist in the game. Continuing her form, CC finished the game with 13 assists, taking her season assists tally to 103, playing in just 12 games. With this, the Fever guard became the fastest player to complete 100 assists in a season.
In 2024, the rookie guard reached the 100-assist mark in 17 games. With that, she levelled the rookie record set by Sue Bird. While the playmaker has trickery to create a scoring opportunity for her teammate, her lofted passes are very popular. She often uses this pass to quickly transition the ball down the court or exploit the defense’s mismatches.

Superstar players find multiple ways to impact the game. Even in her poor shooting form, the guard made plays for her teammates with her pinpoint passing. She even upped her defensive game and played a handy role in defense. In the ongoing season, the two-time All-Star had a shooting percentage below 29% from the range and 35% from the field. Yet she is matching her rookie season points performance.

The star never dropped below six assists this season and had 10+ assists on five occasions. With four other nine-assist games, the star averages 8.6 assists, second only to Alyssa Thomas in 2025. Last season’s assist leader will be looking to retake her crown, with many more games still left to play in the season.
