ESPN crowned Caitlin Clark as the number one young WNBA star. Unfortunately, despite her piling on the awards, the current season has been particularly disappointing. The 23-year-old has been dealing with a nagging groin injury and has missed 20+ games till now. Thankfully, her team has been doing exceptionally well without her, keeping doors open for Clark to come in for the playoffs. However, as Fever notched up a narrow victory, the 23-year-old star looked visibly annoyed.
Indiana Fever squared off against the Los Angeles Sparks recently. The game was pretty crucial for Indiana as losing would have pegged them back significantly in the playoff push. But despite the victory, the rookie star seemed displeased with the officiating.
WNBA Officiating Under Radar As Caitlin Clark Expresses Frustration
The WNBA officiating has gone under the microscope several times. Coaches like Natalie Nakase highlighted the ongoing WNBA officiating issues. Now, coming back to the game, the two teams went neck and neck. And although Fever took the victory 76-75, Clark was utterly displeased.

A glance at the stats will reveal that Los Angeles had a perimeter-oriented approach. And even then, they were awarded six more free throws than the Fever. In fact, the Fever defense constantly dominated the Sparks both on the glass and in the paint. As the game came to a close, the cameras caught a glimpse of Clark.

And surely enough, she was not happy with the refereeing. After the final buzzer sounded, the former Iowa star gave a menacing look. She shouted vociferously at the officials until Aliyah Boston held her back to keep things under control. Meanwhile, as Clark is still awaiting her injury timeline, a WNBA legend shared a surprising take on the 23-year-old’s injury.

Lisa Leslie Wants Indiana Fever To Bench Caitlin Clark
It has been months since Clark donned the Indiana Fever jersey. Although there had been reports of the 2024 Rookie of the Year doing endurance workouts, her return timeline is still very much under wraps. Now, under such a situation, WNBA legend Lisa Leslie has proposed an interesting proposal. She has recently stated that the Fever must not risk her health by playing this season. Instead, they must bench her and start afresh the next season.

“She could provide an amazing boost, but again, I’m just gonna put my coach’s hat on, my GM hat on. You want to see Caitlin Clark for the longevity of her career. I’m just thinking, me personally, I would not put Caitlin Clark back on the floor this season. That deep groin injury is nothing to play around with. It can feel like you’ve never had it, you make one move, one cut — boom — she’s back in the same spot. I don’t know that it’s worth risking it. If they get the eighth spot and you get into the playoffs, is it really worth looking at Minnesota in Round 1? I don’t know. That’s just my opinion,” Leslie said.
Now, this might sound like a good idea. But for the Fever fans, they would want their primary star to come back as soon as possible. However, only the Fever front office can decide whether Clark will return at all.
