The Chicago Sky is dealing with a lot of things at the moment. Following a dismal season, Sky has been eliminated from the WNBA 2025 playoffs. And while the team will be eager to scout some quality athletes for the next season, the recent Angel Reese situation has escalated things further. With the team faltering in their current season, the 23-year-old star made some controversial comments.
She pointed out that if the team does not add quality athletes to the roster, the Chi-Town Barbie will think otherwise and leave Chicago. Immediately after such a comment, the WNBA realm was buzzing. And now, replying to the entire fiasco, the Sky front office has suspended their frontline star.
Sky Release Statement After Angel Reese’s Suspension Following Controversial Comments
Following the widespread reaction to Reese’s comments, a strict action from the Sky management was inevitable. Likewise, in a recently issued statement, the team announced the suspension of Reese in the first half of their game against the Las Vegas Aces. Explaining their decision further, the organization cited the 2024 rookie’s statements as ‘detrimental to the team.’

“The Chicago Sky values the safety, respect, and well-being of every player. We are committed to accountability so our players can stay focused on playing basketball. This matter has been handled and resolved internally, and we are moving forward as a team,” the statement read.

Adding to the matter further, Sky head coach, Tyler Marsh, too, chimed in with his take. Marsh stated that the decision to suspend Reese in the first half was an organizational decision. He also pointed out that the team handled the matter internally after the widespread backlash. Meanwhile, trying to clarify things, Reese recently apologized to her teammates while admitting frustrations with herself. Unfortunately, her apology did little to pacify things as Jason Whitlock lashed out at Chi-Town Barbie.

Jason Whitlock Calls Angel Reese ‘Toxic’ For Her Comments
Reese’s comments ruffled a lot of feathers for sure. And as she pointed out that she was willing to leave Sky if things did not go well, it triggered a lot of people. And one among them was Jason Whitlock. In a recent statement, Whitlock accused Reese of having ‘faked’ her back injury to sit on the sidelines for almost three weeks. And that was not all. He also went on to say that the 23-year-old WNBA star was quite ‘toxic’ in nature.

“This is what they say when you ghost the franchise with a “back” injury for 3 weeks. No one likes playing with Angel Reese. No one. Been true since college. She has a 2-year expiration date and people want her to evacuate. Toxic. I think she wants to play in Dallas w/ Paige and Azzi,” said Whitlock.
Surely, things are looking quite complicated at the moment for Reese. Fans now want to see how the situation de-escalates from here. After all, despite the season down the drain, it is important for Chicago to stick together and finish off on a high note.
