Fans can often go to some unimaginable extent to show love for their favorite player. However, asking for a federal investigation to inquire about harsh fouls? Well, that is relatively unheard of. Surprisingly, that is precisely what a former White House staff member wants to discover about Caitlin Clark.
Clark has been a revelation since she entered the WNBA circuit. Her fame quotient almost singlehandedly revived the league. However, fans are becoming restless with no update on her current injury status. One of them has called for a federal inquiry.
Will There Be A Federal Investigation For Caitlin Clark?
Ever since the 23-year-old arrived in the WNBA, she has proved her worth. While she has looked unstoppable, hostility toward her has also increased. Physical play was implemented to prevent the Iowa native from scoring, and she received many fouls.
This did not sit well with former White House Staffer Sean McLean. In his column in The Wall Street Journal, McLean asked for a “federal probe.” The reason? He felt that Clark’s hostile reception was “potential civil rights violations.”
“The league has fostered a hostile workplace for Ms. Clark through excessive fouling, targeting, and hostile comments from other players and owners… Ms. Clark’s targeting may reflect a culture of disparate treatment, and the evidence provides reasonable cause for a federal probe into potential civil-rights violations,” wrote McLean.

And McLean did not stop there. He came up with an example to add credibility to his appeal. The former White House staff stated that this investigation would be similar to that of Dearica Hamby’s claims of pregnancy discrimination against the WNBA. For the uninitiated, Hamby’s case was taken up by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

However, despite Clark facing excessive physical challenges, a federal investigation seems too much of a stretch. Meanwhile, McLean is not the only one who stands up for Clark. The 23-year-old also had Nancy Lieberman defending her.
Nancy Lieberman Takes a Stand For Caitlin Clark
NBA champion Jeff Teague recently stated that Clark was not the best player for the Indiana Fever. He said how Clark tends to shoot ‘wildly’ from the halfcourt. Teague further pointed out that Kelsey Mitchell looked much more like an all-around player than Clark. Such a comment immediately caught the eyes of WNBA legend Nancy Lieberman.

“Jeff said that she’s good, but she’s not that good. I love you; you weren’t a great player, okay, you were serviceable,” Lieberman said of Teague. “I know you made the All-Star team one time. Sorry, if we’re gonna be honest, I’m happy for your career. But she is great.”
Surely, a legend such as Lieberman standing up for Clark is huge. Nursing her injury at the moment, the Rookie of the Year is waiting eagerly for her comeback. And with Diana Taurasi endorsing her for a NIKE contract, fans cannot wait to see how she performs once she is back.
