The Indiana Fever has been on the edge throughout the season when it comes to injuries. Having a lot of expectations from Caitlin Clark, she was the first to sit out with a lingering groin injury. Facing some of the toughest challenges, sitting on the sidelines, there is no return date for the 2024 Rookie of the Year. Now, add to that the recent injuries of Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson. Surely, the Fever’s chances are looking quite slim this year. However, that is not how Kelsey Mitchell is perceiving the situation.
Playing against the Connecticut Sun, the chips looked down for Indiana. However, in one of the thrilling turnarounds of the league, Mitchell led the team to victory. And looking at her impeccable display, a former Chicago Sky star was full of praise for the 29-year-old.
Chennedy Carter Terms Kelsey Mitchell’s Performance As The Best
The Indiana Fever was down by 21 points till the third quarter. And just when the fans thought that the game was over, Mitchell came to the party. Taking the hardwood by storm, the WNBA veteran dropped 38 points as the Fever won 99-93 in overtime. And while there were significant contributions from Odyssey Sims and Aliyah Boston, the star of the show was undoubtedly Mitchell.

Shooting from the field, the 29-year-old converted 11 out of her 22 attempts. Likewise, when it came to three-pointers, she knocked down 5 out of 8 attempts. Surely, such a phenomenal performance was bound to turn heads. And former Chicago Sky star, Chennedy Carter, was awestruck. Taking to her X, formerly known as Twitter account, Carter labelled the play as “the best.”
“I can’t even lie, the way Kelsey hooped tonight lowkey the best buckets all season,” Carter said.

Surely, this was not the first time Mitchell came to the aid of her team this season. Looking at her stats for the month of August, the veteran star has five games where she has scored more than 20 points. And that is why head coach White has repeatedly praised Mitchell for leading the Fever’s playoff push in Clark’s absence.
Stephanie White Details How Indiana Fever Is Overly Dependent On Kelsey Mitchell
Ahead of their triumph against the Sun, the Fever were in a precarious position. After losing their game against the Washington Mystics, HC White detailed what exactly cost the Fever the game. And it was none other than overdependence on Kelsey Mitchell. She stated how the entire team just passed the ball to the 29-year-old and hoped for something to happen.
“It’s almost like we gave the ball to Kelsey (Mitchell) and tried to watch her work. And that’s not when we’re at our best. Yes, we certainly want her to have the ball in her hands, but we have to continue to get movement with and without the basketball. And it was getting stuck,” White told the media.

Now, with the Fever’s campaign once again getting kick-started, the playoffs are seemingly within grasp. However, in order to remain consistent, the likes of Mitchell and others need to step up just like they did recently.
