The Seattle Storm ended their slow season with a place in the postseason. Skyler Diggins, Nneka Ogwumike, and Gabby Williams architected the impressive turnaround for the franchise, leading the side in three different categories. Williams, in particular, was a two-way player who put up an excellent performance for Noelle Quinn’s team.
No one could forget her infamous collision with Lexie Hull, leaving both stars ‘black eye’ a day later. But after recovering from the collision, the former UConn star was at her best, putting her franchise at the front.
While her dedication and performances received a lot of praise, it was not the same for the Chicago Sky, the franchise that drafted her in the 2018 WNBA draft. The player opened up about it in her recent podcast interview.

Gabby Williams Reflects On Her Time At Chicago Sky
The French star won two national championships with UConn and was the fourth overall pick in the 2018 WNBA draft, with all the chances to shine even brighter than her college career. But the things didn’t pan out as she expected, following three poor seasons in the league. She even opted out of her fourth and final rookie contract year (2021 season) and played in Europe.
Talking about the same in the ‘Fudd Around And Find Out’ podcast, Williams said, “Things were not going great for me in Chicago. I think it’s just obvious that it was not a right fit. And I was honest with them, even before the draft night, they called me and said ‘we heard you have a French passport’. So I was like don’t draft me if that’s gonna be a problem. So they drafted me, and it became a problem.”

Williams averaged around seven points, two assists, three rebounds, and a steal for the Sky side. Entering free agency, she signed with the Storm team and recently delivered her career-high season with 11.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game with 2.2 steals.
While her decision to leave the Sky side proved correct, she offered one piece of advice to Azzi Fudd, who will be the next UConn star to enter the league in the 2026 season.
Gabby Williams Gives Hilarious Advice To Azzi Fudd
The 29-year-old guard speaks from the heart, which makes her one of the likable athletes in the league. She even discussed quitting the WNBA if Unrivaled pays her better. Luckily, she hasn’t done that yet. The star had one advice for the podcast host, Azzi Fudd.
On the podcast, Williams said, “I am really wondering how this is gonna play this year. I want you to have a good season but not too good.”
Her Seattle Storm has the third overall pick in the 2026 WNBA season, but considering the potential of Azzi Fudd and the two teams above the Storm – the Dallas Wings and Minnesota Lynx – Williams assumed that the 5-foot-11 guard would not land in Seattle.
Interestingly, Gabby Williams is also a free agent in the 2026 season, having completed her ‘Core player’ contract with the Storm franchise in 2025.
