Gabrielle Lisa Williams was born on September 9, 1996, in Sparks, Nevada. She grew up excelling in multiple sports but quickly found her passion in basketball.
Williams went on to star at UConn (2014–2018), where she was part of one of the most dominant programs in NCAA history. She won two NCAA Championships (2015, 2016) and was named AAC Defensive Player of the Year (2017, 2018). Known for her hustle and ability to guard multiple positions, Williams was considered one of the best defenders in college basketball.
Williams was drafted 4th overall in the 2018 WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky. She spent three seasons with Chicago, becoming a defensive anchor and a reliable scorer. In 2021, though she was traded before the playoffs, she earned a championship ring with the Sky’s title-winning team.
In 2022, she joined the Seattle Storm, where she took on a bigger role. With the Storm, Williams became a starter, averaging 7.5 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists per game in her first season. She’s recognized for her defensive versatility, often guarding the opposing team’s best scorer.
Internationally, Williams represents France, where she helped the team win a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and continues to play a major role in FIBA competitions.
