Injuries have marred the Indiana Fever’s 2025 WNBA regular season, including five of its top players out for the season. Still, the team’s postseason qualification remained an impressive achievement. Stephanie White recently revealed Fever’s strategy ahead of the first playoff game against Atlanta.
However, forwarding Damiris Dantas’ injury is putting a new question mark on their preparations. The franchise received an injury update for the 32-year-old forward ahead of the first round against the Atlanta Dream. As per the update, she suffered an injury during a training session.
Damiris Dantas Injury Update
The Indiana Fever will play its first playoff game against the Atlanta Dream on September 14. With Kelsey Mitchell, Natasha Howard, and Aliyah Boston in excellent form, the Fever team will be ready for the challenge. With two wins in three regular-season games, the Fever seems to be the favourite to win the series, but in the playoffs, they will be without their star players, who last played in the July 11 game.

Sophie Cunningham, Aari McDonald, and Caitlin Clark were part of that game; they will miss the playoff game due to injuries. But another injury news hit them hard ahead of the playoff game. Per reports, Dantas sustained a concussion during the team’s practice on Thursday when they looked well in place to field all 12 players for the fourth game in a row.
However, she is under the concussion protocol and will miss the opening game of the 2025 playoffs. The loss of Dantas is a blow to the team and a continuation of what has been a frustrating and injury-plagued season. Her range shooting had been efficient in recent games, allowing the side to stretch the opposition defense.
Fever have a new addition to the injury report, a sixth player.

Karls Smesko has a strong forward line that efficiently protects the rim and mid-region shots, so having a forward capable of draining threes was a ‘luxury’ for Stephanie White.
Damiris Dantas’ Absence Put More Responsibility On The Line-Up
Ahead of the 2025 playoffs, the Indiana Fever confirmed the signing of Odyssey Sims, Aerial Powers, and Shey Peddy. Hoping to have 12 players available for the games, Stephanie White will now have to distribute the Brazilian star’s game time and responsibilities among the active players.
Sims and Powers have been heavily included in the game plans, while Peddy is also getting more game time and delivering some clutch performances. Dantas averaged five minutes per game, but has been helpful as the stretch forward and in rebounds. Powers and Peddy played at similar positions, while Brianna Turner has been very effective around the rim.
It will be interesting to watch how White uses her rotations against the powerful forward line-up.
