The Indiana Fever had one of the most bizarre seasons this year. While they reached the semifinals of the tournament, injuries marred their entire run.
With Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, and Aari McDonald sidelined, the team brought in Sydney Colson as Clark’s primary backup. Unfortunately, the same game injured both Clark and Colson, forcing them to miss the entire season.
With Fever’s season coming to an end, the likes of Clark showered Colson with love following her season-ending message. Now, as a completely new season dawns, all eyes are on how well the 36-year-old can make a comeback.
Have We Seen The Last Of Sydney Colson?
With almost all veterans entering free agency, teams must finalize their best possible rosters. And while fans want the WNBA veteran to come back, Colson has dropped a subtle hint at her possible retirement.

In a recent appearance on the ‘Post Moves’ podcast, Colson initially shared some good news. Speaking with the likes of Candace Parker and Aliyah Boston, the veteran star stated that she was recovering well.
But then, she also left a loose thread dangling as Colson hinted that she might just hang up her boots for good.

“I’m ahead of schedule. Our trainers are happy with the progress I’ve been making. I’m feeling stronger every day. While I’m rehabbing, I want to have the mindset that I’m going to get back on the court,” Colson said. “If I do, great. If I can’t, great too, just my time will be up.”
Now, then, looking at her season with the Fever, the guard dropped averages of 2.4 points, 2.0 assists, and 13.5 minutes this year. Meanwhile, as she bid an emotional farewell to the Fever for the season, Colson heaped praises on Clark.
Sydney Colson Is Happy To Play Alongside Caitlin Clark
Colson did take a dig at Fever’s injury report. However, it was pretty certain that if the 36-year-old was available for the entirety of the season, the Fever might just have crossed the semi-final hurdle.
And while the team fell to the Las Vegas Aces by a whisker, it was time for Colson to bid farewell to her team, at least, for the time being.

“It was cool being on a team with her, getting to see her in another light. It was good to see a lighter side of her. Unfortunately, when you’re injured, you have to adjust your mindset and get mentally tougher. I kept talking to her a lot about staying vocal. You don’t want to lose this time with your teammates just because you’re sidelined—you can still lead and build relationships,” she said.
Thus, with Colson’s situation still complicated, fans now wait to see whether she will return.
