With three All-Stars on the roster, the Indiana Fever should be among the league’s elite, at least on paper. But their latest showing against the Golden State Valkyries told a different story. A deflating 61–80 loss to the WNBA’s newest expansion team has left head coach Stephanie White, star guard Caitlin Clark, and the rest of the squad with serious questions to answer.
Fans were particularly disappointed by the lack of fight from a team branded as a title contender. The Fever ended the game with their second-lowest scoring total of the season, sparking frustration across social media, including a fiery reaction from outspoken supporter Jason Whitlock.
Jason Whitlock Blasts Stephanie White For Poor Decisions Around Caitlin Clark
Famous sports columnist Jason Whitlock was furious with the loss. Interestingly, his frustration was not with the defeat but with the tactics used in the game. He targeted the Indiana Fever head coach and demanded that she be fired. Defeat at home against an expansion team was not acceptable for the TV show host.
“At this point, you have to consider the possibility that the Indiana Fever are in on the plot to destroy Caitlin Clark. Stephanie White is an idiot, should be fired. This woman played Aari McDonald for 18 minutes in the first half. Three weeks ago, Aari McDonald wasn’t on a WNBA roster.” He said in a video posted on his official ‘X’ account.
Stephanie White needs to be fired! She thinks Aari McDonald is Lisa Salters’ daughter. The insanity must end. pic.twitter.com/bHvzS6glAs

Questioning the 48-year-old HC’s idea behind the use of Aari McDonald as the primary ball handler and destroying the Aliyah Boston-Caitlin Clark chemistry on the court, Whitlock mentioned that the insanity must end.
CC struggled to put up big numbers for her side and finished the game with 10 points and six assists. With her at the guard position, Boston also had a rough night, completing the game with six points and six rebounds. Aari McDonnald, who had been impactful for the team so far, clocked in 27 minutes (more than Clark and Boston) and had seven points in the game.

Whitlock added that the Fever’s head coach might have good relations with Lisa Salters, an exceptional guard on the Lady Lions basketball team, but should understand that Aari McDonald is not Lisa Salters’ daughter. The Indiana franchise is seventh in the league with a 9-10 record.
Caitlin Clark And The Indiana Fever Are In Deep Trouble
The ‘testing phase’ for the new team and new coach is now over. The WNBA 2025 season is nearing its mid-point, and the team must deliver now. At the beginning of the season, the franchise added defence and experience to its explosive offensive core. The head coach, well respected for her tactics, was brought in. But after 19 games, the expected results are not in sight.

Apart from the Commissioner’s Cup title, the Indiana Fever team struggled throughout the regular season. Initially, they were one of the top three choices for the title this season. The other two sides – the Minnesota Lynx and New York Liberty have been consistent with their production and stand in first and third place in the league, respectively. The departure of DeWanna Bonner and the late adjustment with McDonald’s addition highlight the failed planning at the start of the season.
As for Caitlin Clark, the 2024 Rookie of the Year winner was out for 10 games in the season. She still matches her rookie season average in the remaining nine games, but lacks consistency. The player is currently netting 39% of her attempts, with the ranged shots dropping down to 29.5%. In her first full season, the Iowa star averaged 42% from the field and 35% from the three-point range. A slight drop in her productivity is affecting the outcome of the game.
Stephanie White must utilize her assets well. As expectations pile on her, her tasks get tougher. She must get the most out of her star-studded team to deliver the promised land.
