JuJu Watkins has already become quite a popular name in the female basketball sphere. Playing for USC, the young hoop star clinched the consensus NCAA women’s basketball player of the year in 2024-25.
Her impeccable showing has garnered her quite a significant amount of attention. Only recently, Watkins became one of the 14 NCAA stars to sign the Unrivaled NIL deal.
Now, while everyone is excited to watch the NCAA phenom’s career take flight, she recently made history. Watkins joined a legendary line of investors as she announced her decision to get associated with the NWSL.
NWSL Welcomes Investor JuJu Watkins With Open Arms
According to reports, Watkins is now part of the Boston Legacy FC team for the NWSL expansion. Now, this is a significant milestone for the athlete because Watkins has become the only college athlete to invest in a professional female sports team directly.

Taking a closer look at the NWSL list of investors, Watkins has joined a star-studded lineup. The Boston Legacy FC boasts Kelsey Mitchell, Caleb Williams, Aly Raisman, and Elizabeth Banks as its investors.
Surely, soon after the news went public, the team owner sounded utterly delighted. “Juju’s investment marks a groundbreaking moment for women’s sports and the power of NIL. As the first college athlete to directly invest in a women’s professional sports team, she’s showing that today’s student-athletes aren’t just building their own brands — they’re shaping the future of the game. Caitlin Clark’s emergence took the WNBA by storm. However, just a year after the fans saw Clark’s carnage, it was time for Paige Bueckers to steal the show. “I think they’re both great players. Love watching Paige, she has a great game. So I’m excited to see her continue to do well. And I hope Caitlin gets better as soon as possible,” JuJu said.
