The Indiana Fever finally lost an elimination game in the 2025 season as the Las Vegas Aces defeated the resilient team 107-98 in Game 5. Although Stephanie White’s team overcame multiple star players’ injuries, the brutal one came in the series decider at the Michelob ULTRA Arena as Kelsey Mitchell left the field due to a knee injury.
The 29-year-old guard was the star of the Fever’s playoff run, taking over the offensive responsibility of the side. Mitchell even set a scoring record during game 1 of the series against the Aces, but in the decider, her injury ended the Fever’s run in the 2025 season.
Kelsey Mitchell Exits Game 5 With Injury
Both Aces and Fever players played their hearts out for a place in the WNBA finals. ESPN made a bold prediction for Game 5 of the series, showing a possible one-sided game as per their analytics. But the teams matched each other in every department.

But the decisive moment came in 5:05 minutes left in the third quarter as the Fever’s explosive scorer went down with an injury. It was a non-contact injury, yet a very devastating one as KM took time getting up. Fever players surrounded Mitchell with towels as she lay on her back. Mitchell subsequently rolled over onto her stomach while team staff appeared to stretch her leg.
Now Kelsey Mitchell is down on the floor, with the whole Fever team surrounding her & covering her with towels. It is unclear what is going on, doesn't appear like there was any contact. A concerning scenario for Indiana, who has already dealt with so much adversity this season

The game continued as the Aces fans and players applauded the Fever guard as she was carried out of the field. She couldn’t put any pressure on her left leg. Holly Rowe reported that Mitchell is out for the remainder of the game. The former Ohio State player finished the game with 15 points in 23 minutes. Mitchell rubbished any injury concerns earlier in the series, but now suffered a knee injury, which will take time to recover completely.

Chelsea Gray also suffered an injury in the third quarter but returned to action quickly, helping the hosts to hold on to the lead with her three-point shooting. But much credit goes to the Fever team, who didn’t give up despite Mitchell’s injury.
Fever Pushed Aces To Limits Despite Kelsey Mitchell’s Injury
The veteran guard’s injury was a significant blow to the Fever’s chances of advancing to the finals. The Fever were in trouble as Aliyah Boston also sat out the final minutes of the game after receiving five fouls in the game. But Lexie Hull and Odyssey Sims stepped up, taking care of the offensive plays for Stephanie White’s team.
With 22 seconds left in the game, Sims made a layup, sending the game into overtime. This was a commendable achievement for the resilient team that overcame five season-ending injuries in addition to KM’s unlucky departure in Game 5. She led the team in scoring with 23 points while Natasha Howard added 16 points and seven rebounds. Aliyah Boston, despite facing foul trouble, recorded a double-double in the game. The Aces finally closed the series with a 21-12 run in overtime.
