What would the Indiana Fever do if Caitlin Clark is not available to provide them a scoring punch? Many had this question in their mind. But the stacked side, which struggled with consistency, had only one player delivering on a nightly basis – Kesley Mitchell. And she did it again for the team.
Back to the Gainbridge Fieldhouse arena, back to the ‘W’ for the Indiana Fever. This time, they defeated the former champions, the Las Vegas Aces, 80-70. The three-time All-Star handled the scoring and led the scorers with 21 points. With this, she also recorded an astonishing feat in the league.
Kelsey Mitchell Sets Scoring Record Against Aces
The Aces historically dominated the Fever with a 16-0 record against them. Early in July, the Indiana Franchise broke that streak. On July 24, they recorded their second win of the season over A’ja Wilson and co, giving them a significant 2-1 series lead over their Western Conference rivals.
The Fever guard, architect of the win, scored a game-high 21 points and became the fastest Indiana player to cross the 4400 points mark. The 29-year-old guard now has 4413 points in 258 games, the fourth fastest in the league. Other top players include A’ja Wilson, Diana Taurasi, and Cappie Pondexter, who retired with the Indiana Fever but set the record with the Liberty.
