The Indiana Fever pulled off one of the biggest comebacks in this year’s WNBA. In their latest game against the Connecticut Sun, most fans had written off the Fever. This was because they were trailing by a huge deficit of 21 points as the game slowly approached its end. But then, it was Kelsey Mitchell’s masterclass that turned the game on its head. But despite a fabulous performance, Mitchell did not seem happy.
Fever had a forgettable first-half performance. With their primary star, Caitlin Clark, facing her toughest challenges sitting on the bench, Indiana was staring right down the rabbit hole. However, now that the game has been won, looking back at their initial performance, the 29-year-old has some interesting words to share.
Kelsey Mitchell Happy To Witness Her Team’s Impressive Resilience
It was a now-or-never situation for the 3x WNBA All-Star. And thus, Mitchell wasted no time and exploded on the Sun. Showing some impeccable display of quality basketball, Mitchell dropped a career-high 38 points. She also headed home 5 of Fever’s seven successful three-pointers out of 12 attempts in the second half.

Speaking at the post-game conference, the 29-year-old honestly said that the first half “suc*ed.” She also went on to say how the initial efforts were not good enough to counter the Sun’s aggressive play. But as time went by, Mitchell felt proud to see that an iron-clad resilience of not giving up took over her teammates.
“It sucked for me, first half. It just wasn’t (good). And I think that it wasn’t as well for our group, but the resiliency is true in our room. But I really think that that’s the most resilient that we’ve ever been because of everything we’ve been through,” said Mitchell.

Surely, Mitchell was right, as it was not only she who helped Indiana win. Contributions came in from others, too. For example, just after joining the team a week back, Odyssey Sims chipped in with 19 points while Aliyah Boston finished with 14. And while the victory provided much-needed playoff oxygen for the Fever, head coach Stephanie White got emotional after witnessing such a spirited performance. Unfortunately, despite all the glitz and glamour of the victory, the Indiana Fever suffered a telling blow in Sophie Cunningham’s injury.
Sophie Cunningham’s Injury Spoils Kelsey Mitchell And Indiana Fever’s Party
After delivering such a goated performance, people would expect Kelsey Mitchell to celebrate. And surely, she herself too, wanted to indulge in some fun and frolic. Unfortunately, that did not happen as Sophie Cunningham suffered a nasty injury during the game. After playing for just ten minutes, Cunningham clashed with Bria Hartley. As she went down, the 28-year-old looked in significant discomfort with her right knee. Such a harsh tussle had Cunningham’s sister, Lindsey Cunningham, blast the WNBA officials.
“@WNBA maybe you should focus less on fining players for commenting on your poor officiating & more about hiring officials that are able to call a consistent game and protect your athletes. Pathetic. Praying for you Sophie,” Lindsey wrote.

The injury is expected to be a huge blow for the Fever. With Clark already missing out, the last thing they would want is another player gone. As per reports, Cunningham is slated to undergo an MRI scan on Monday.
