The WNBA 2025 schedule incorporated 44 games per team due to the addition of the expansion team. While there are five more teams coming up in the next five years, the 2025 season proved to be the testing ground for the same. The four-game addition comes out at 52 more games in the league, but the league duration is extended to just four days (118 days from 114 days in 2024).
Numerically fixing the schedule is tiring, and it’s physically exhausting for players. Analyst Rebecca Lobo even mentioned that this condensed schedule is the main reason for injuries in the league. But Los Angeles Sparks guard Kelsey Plum has a straightforward take on this packed schedule.
Kelsey Plum Gives Realistic Answer To WNBA’s Schedule
After the All-Star break, the team won six out of seven games, igniting playoff hopes after four seasons. But then three losses in five games, especially against the postseason contenders, hampered their progress. Ironically, the team played these 12 games in just 26 days, averaging 2.2 days per game.

Many hinted that this crunch schedule was the reason for the team’s slight downfall, but Kelsey Plum clarifies the idea.
“Some things I’ve learned in this league is [whether it’s] two days, one day or six days [of rest], no one feels bad for anyone. So it doesn’t matter, at the end of the day you gotta show up and play basketball,” Plum told reporters ahead of the game against the Wings.
Even though the Sparks had little recovery time, other teams also went through the same grueling schedule. The former champion was not in the mood to blame it on the league or schedule for the losses and has a clear view about it. As for physical fatigue, the guard played in 34 of the 35 games for the LA side and clocked over 35 minutes per game. Looking at the 30-year-old guard’s usage and performances, hardly anyone would point to the schedule as a reason for losses.

Dearica Hamby, another heavy usage player, also highlighted the team’s mentality and encouraged her side to deliver on the floor. On the side, it’s important that they are still in the hunt for the layoffs, with just 0.5 games separating them from the eighth-placed Seattle Storm.
Kelsey Plum And The Los Angeles Sparks To Get A Smoother Schedule Ahead
The former MVP joined the young side to lead them to glory. She had been true to her words with impressive performances night in and night out. After a packed schedule, the three-time champions will have slightly smoother matchups. With nine games remaining in their regular season, the side will play three games in a 10-day period and then two back-to-back games before closing the season with alternate-day matchups.
The team looking for a place in the postseason will look to seal the spot as early as possible within the next five games to give their star players a breather before the playoffs. HC Lynne Roberts put together an excellent team capable of snatching a surprise win, and they will look to make the most of their resources in the remainder of the season.
