Paige Bueckers has been phenomenal all throughout the season. Coming in as the number one overall pick in the draft, she has asserted her dominance to the fullest. Showing some impressive potential, Bueckers has already broken the Dallas Wings’ scoring record in a loss to the Golden State Valkyries. Surely, her stature is now daunting enough for the opponents to make plans. And the Los Angeles Sparks’ coach, Lynne Roberts, too, has thought of a plan to slow her down.
The Dallas Wings faced off against the Sparks this Sunday. And keeping in mind the mayhem Bueckers created last time, the Sparks were extra cautious. Thankfully, Roberts was pretty confident and also chalked out a plan to limit the 23-year-old.
Lynne Roberts Had A Special Plan For Paige Bueckers
Bueckers has already outshone Caitlin Clark with a historic rookie record recently. And keeping in mind her 44-point game against the Sparks, it was quite expected that Los Angeles would be wary of the Wings’ rookie. Speaking about the Sparks’ defense, Roberts seems to be quite pleased with how things panned out. She especially spoke highly of Sarah Ashlee Barker and hoped that she would continue with her good work.

“SA’s [Sarah Ashlee] got great size for a two guard. She’s six feet tall and strong and not afraid. She’ll guard anybody. I thought she did a really good job. Kelsey was trying to play through stuff today and it was great to not have to put her back out there so she can recover a little bit,” said Roberts.

She further went on to say that although Bueckers still managed to drop 18 points, the Sparks’ defense was alert not to let her run loose. And surely, Roberts’ plan worked as the Sparks went on to win the game 91-77. Meanwhile, as Bueckers won Rookie of the Month for August, Sue Bird voiced for more coverage on the Wings’ rookie.

Sue Bird Wants More Paige Bueckers Coverage Over Caitlin Clark
Caitlin Clark has been the face of the WNBA since her rookie season in 2024. With her bringing in a lot of media attention and elevating the game altogether, the spotlight shone brightly on her. Even this year, as the Fever star is nursing her injuries, the news hasn’t stopped coming in. And this is what makes Sue Bird feel a little off. She immediately pointed out how there were other WNBA stars on whom there must be more coverage. And one such name was Bueckers.

“I think Paige is really popular… it’s specific. I think…what I would say that I’m noticing that’s lacking, not just Paige…honestly, everyone in the WNBA. Including Caitlin! I know she’s not playing right now. It’s like…where is the ‘more?’” she said.
Surely, Bird does have a point here. The 23-year-old has gone toe-to-toe with Clark. And in a lot of instances, she has also eclipsed the Fever star’s records. Thus, with so much noise going on, it is certain that Bueckers will be coming back stronger next season.
