The WNBA has been witnessing a surge in popularity in recent times. More and more viewers have tuned in to watch the games. And brands across industries have expressed interest in partnering with the league. And one of the biggest reasons for the same has been the emergence of athletes like Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark. As Bueckers broke the Wings’ scoring record recently, she has been inspiring several other young fans. And this particular aspect is making Lynne Roberts extremely happy.
Well, it is a fact that the brands of fearless basketball that Clark and Bueckers play are influencing a lot of youngsters. And according to Roberts, despite female athletes giving it their best previously, the exposure was too low for the fans to notice.

The Los Angeles Sparks might have failed to qualify for the playoffs. And just like their star forward, Dearica Hamby has kept a positive outlook following the defeat, Sparks’ head coach, too, has a lot of good things to say. Ahead of their final game against the Aces, Roberts got candid about how the female sports dynamics have changed.

“When I was nine, women played but it was pre-internet. It certainly wasn’t on TV. I had Michael Jordan. I had Charles Barkley on my wall. Now these boys and girls can have these badaa** women, and I think it’s one of the coolest things about this movement,” Roberts stated.

She further reminisced about how her nine-year-old boy cherishes a signed show from Kelsey Plum. Roberts was also pleased to learn how young fans are now equally excited to wear Bueckers’ or A’ja Wilson’s jerseys the same way as LeBron James and Jayson Tatum. Surely, the emergence of Clark and Bueckers has made a lot of difference to the league’s overall appeal. While many thought that Clark’s absence this year would see the ratings plummet, the likes of Bueckers ensured that it did not happen. Meanwhile, this is not the only interesting topic that Roberts has been discussing. Only recently, she broke down the injury setbacks in the WNBA this year.

Lynne Roberts Details Why There Are So Many Injuries In WNBA
The WNBA this year has seen a plethora of injuries. Starting from Fever’s Clark, the list has only grown bigger. In Indiana alone, injuries sidelined Sophie Cunningham, Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson, and more. Then there was Angel Reese, Napheesa Collier, Breanna Stewart, etc., suffering from niggles. Thus, reflecting on the situation, Roberts stated that the WNBA players do not get a lot of rest in the offseason. That’s because most of them sign up in other leagues to make more money.

“I think it’s probably a 12-month [season]. I think you have to look at the whole calendar year for these athletes not just the W season because they’re playing overseas … they’re not getting that break that most professional athletes get in the offseason,” said Roberts.
Surely, it is evident that Roberts has a lot to say about the current affairs going on in the WNBA. Now, fans wait to see how she motivates the Los Angeles Sparks and leads a strong comeback next year.
