The Phoenix Mercury aims to maintain their strong campaign after the All-Star break and improve their position as the competition intensifies. They currently hold the second-best record in the league at 13-6, trailing only the Minnesota Lynx.
On Monday, the Mercury snapped a two-game losing skid with a 30-point rout of the Dallas Wings. Sami Whitcomb erupted for a career-high 36 points, including 29 in the first half, while Alyssa Thomas recorded her 16th career triple-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 15 assists. However, they have massive news regarding DeWanna Bonner.
DeWanna Bonner To Reportedly Sign With Mercury
Riding on their strong standing, the Mercury plans to add another weapon. Veteran forward DeWanna Bonner is reportedly set to sign with the team for the rest of the season, according to ESPN’s Michael Voepel and Josh Weinfuss.

The Phoenix Mercury is picking up Bonner after the Indiana Fever waived her last month. The two camps are reuniting—Phoenix drafted Bonner fifth overall in 2009. She spent 10 seasons with the team and helped it win championships in her rookie year and again in 2014.

DeWanna Bonner’s Short Stint With Fever
The 37-year-old Bonner played in only nine games for the Fever, averaging 7.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in limited minutes. With Clark, Boston, and Mitchell already leading the charge, Bonner didn’t get many opportunities.
She sat out five games due to “personal reasons.”
Despite the failed relationship, Bonner expressed her gratitude to Indiana after she was waived.
“I want to sincerely thank the Indiana Fever for the opportunity to be part of the Fever franchise. Despite our shared goals and excitement heading into the season, I felt the fit did not work out, and I appreciate the organization’s willingness to grant my request to move on, particularly at this point in my career. I wish the Fever great success as they continue to build around this dynamic group of young players,” said the six-time All-Star, as quoted in the mentioned report.
With her return to the Phoenix Mercury, Bonner could play more minutes off the bench. After all, she’s no stranger to the role—she won Sixth Woman of the Year honors for three consecutive years from 2009 to 2011.
