Stephanie White once again got emotional with her team’s response in the series against the Atlanta Dream. Kelsey Mitchell praised the head coach for bringing out the best in her, while Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, and other injured players celebrated wildly after the Indiana Fever advanced to the WNBA semifinal.
While it was a celebration of victory, it had much hidden meaning. Cunningham opened up about it on the ‘Show Me Something’ Podcast.
Sophie Cunningham Believes That the WNBA Didn’t Expect Them In the Semifinal
Even though the Indiana Fever roster has many superstars, most of them are out of rotation because of season-long injuries. It includes Cunningham herself, Sydney Colson, and Caitlin Clark. Looking at the situation, many analysts counted out the Fever team in the first round itself.

After the win, the Indiana Fever shared a post taking a jab at those critics. Cunningham also touched on the topic and said that not many expected the Indiana Fever to reach this far.
“The league is so mad that we won, because we are literally not supposed to be here at all, and that just fuels our fire even more,” Cunningham said in the podcast.

Cunningham herself reacted in shock after the series won against the Dream. And now will be rooting for the side against the Aces. Ahead of the important series, the experienced forward pointed out a key battle that could decide the winner.
Sophie Cunningham Predicts Key Battle In WNBA Semifinal
The Las Vegas Aces vs. Indiana Fever will be an entertaining encounter, with both sides now in great form. Although the Aces have a slight edge in the faceoff with A’ja Wilson’s extraordinary form, the Fever team showed its character and grit to win a few impossible games. The 29-year-old forward, though, pointed out a key battle in the semifinal.
“And the key to really stopping them is stopping A’ja. I think the matchup between AB and A’ja was huge. Huge, huge. So we’ve still got to key in on that. But honestly, we are just a completely different team, and so are they… Their momentum and the way they’re playing are different from when we played them. And then our roster is completely, completely different,” Cunningham said.
The Fever team has better depth in a few areas and can exploit the Aces’ weaknesses in the game.
