“So far this season, we’ve had a lot of distractions, you can call it, some injuries, don’t know who’s playing,” Cunningham said. “We are circled on everybody’s schedule. No one like us. Everyone in our locker room, that’s the only type of people that we have that we can lean on.”
She said every team deals with a packed calendar. She stressed excuses won’t bring the Fever wins. Cunningham admitted the players have grown apart. She takes responsibility as a leader to fix it.

Sophie Cunningham Failed To Save Fever Collapse In Clark’s Absence
Cunningham tried to hold the Fever together when Caitlin Clark was ruled out with a groin injury. Indiana led by eight points heading into the fourth quarter against the Sparks, but could not close it out.
The Sparks cleaned up their mistakes and took over the game when it mattered most. Indiana gave up a late lead because of small errors and missed chances in the final minutes. Cunningham worked hard on defense, grabbing four steals in the first half alongside Aliyah Boston.

The Fever forced 15 turnovers early, which helped them stay in front despite poor shooting.
But when the Sparks stopped turning the ball over, the Fever had no answer and fell apart late. Cunningham’s leadership was not enough to steady the team as they gave up a 19-8 run to open the fourth.
