There are WNBA fans and then there are Indiana Fever fans. The downtown loyalists were pouring their hearts out on the team’s recent games, even without rookie phenom Caitlin Clark.
However, since CC is out of action for some time, she has got another pal taking over the Indiana fanbase in Sophie Cunningham. On one side, where Cunningham voiced frustration with WNBA refs, she has a soft heart for the Fever fans.
Sophie Cunningham Wins Over Indiana Fever Fans
While the Fever are fighting tooth and nail, the sidelined guard, out with a knee injury, went all out to connect with supporters outside Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Cunningham was signing autographs and snapping photos that left some fans crying tears of joy.

Despite her heartfelt gesture, the Fever dropped Game 3 to the Las Vegas Aces 84-72, falling behind 2-1 in the semifinals. Despite the loss and injuries to stars like Cunningham and Caitlin Clark, the fans showed up in big numbers at the arena.
As the Fever prepared to host the Aces for their first home playoff game since 2015, Cunningham gave fans a reason to smile despite the team’s uphill battle. She took to social media before Game 3, announcing she’d be outside Gainbridge Fieldhouse for photos, autographs, and even giving away shoes to lucky supporters.

However, one fan was seen wiping tears after meeting the 6-foot-1 guard, a testament to her bond with the Indy faithful.
Sophie Cunningham Took Shots At A’ja Wilson
While she had a lovely time interacting with the downtown fans, Cunningham earlier took aim at A’ja Wilson and the Aces on her podcast, ‘Show Me Something,’ after Indiana’s Game 1 stunner.
“The Aces gave, they had media the next day and they gave us no credit. Especially like A’ja, she’s like, ‘Oh I just played bad.’ I’m like dude, AB had you in clamps my girl. And then like Game Two, we all kinda knew the league side of things, they definitely play better, don’t get me wrong. Vegas played better. Junk defense, which was hard for us we weren’t hitting our shots whatsoever,” she said.
Additionally, Cunningham credited Aliyah Boston’s defense for holding Wilson to 16 points on 6-of-22 shooting, sparking the 89-73 upset. Though Wilson bounced back, averaging 19 points and 2.5 blocks over Games 2 and 3. Wilson also surpassed Brittney Griner for third all-time in playoff blocks.
