The Indiana Fever, with an 18-16 record, needed a win. Any slip-up would crush the Team’s dream of making it into the playoffs after a promising offseason. Stephanie White understood the task and mentioned the most crucial phase in the season during her pre-game interview.
The Fever team answered her call and delivered a clinical performance to overcome the 21-point deficit and clinch an extraordinary 99-93 win. While White was emotional during her locker room speech, in the post-game interview, she was spot on with her analysis.
Stephanie White Talks About Indiana Fever’s Most Important Opponent
The Fever team struggled in the opening quarters of the game, falling behind by 19 points. Leading scorer Kelsey Mitchell had a tough shooting night, scoring just four points in that phase. But, she hit the top gear, netting many clutch baskets for her team. She finished the game with a career-high 38 points to lead the side to victory. Her previous career high, 38 points, was against the Connecticut Sun only.

While head coach White spoke about the team’s reliance on Mitchell, Aliyah Boston and Odyssey Sims were also effective on the offensive end, sailing the ship for the visitors. The 48-year-old coach was ready for the presser after facing a lot of backlash following the recent two losses and had some strong words.
“This was the most important game for us. Connecticut is our most important opponent. We cannot look too far ahead. We don’t have the luxury of that, and we’ve got to make sure that we’re continuing to stay locked into the moment,” White said in a press conference.

A loss would have put the team in seventh place with just a game advantage over the Seattle Storm. Now, they are sixth with a two-game advantage over eighth-placed Seattle. Winning most of the remaining games will be crucial for the Indiana franchise to keep its playoff aspirations alive.
The head coach praised every player on the roster for playing as a team during these tough times and delivering at the highest level. She also addressed Clark’s availability for upcoming games.

The 2024 rookie was not in the game, which was understandable, but what surprised many was her absence even from the bench. The former Iowa star missed over 20 games in the 2025 season, but she stayed with her Team for the away games too. An interviewer had the first question for the head coach about Clark’s availability.

The coach, avoiding answering today’s absence, mentioned that the playmaker is getting better and will join the squad when she is 100% fit. The side’s long-term health and fitness are prime objectives, and they will be working on them. Ryan Ruocco, the 2024 Rookie of the Year winner, could join the side on August 26 in a game against the Seattle Storm.
