Midway through August, Stephanie White shed tears of joy following a win over the Connecticut Sun. Fans trolled White for crying after the win over a weak team. However, under pressure, the HC understood the meaning of that overtime win, which has now played a significant role in their playoff qualification.
The team pushed its bid for the postseason qualification with that win, and now found its destiny after another win, this time over the Washington Mystics. HC was not emotional this time but charged up after reaching her goal.
Stephanie White Delivers Strong Message After Securing Playoff Spot
The injury-hit Indiana Fever had to select their wins to qualify for the playoffs without star players like Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, and Sydney Colson. The ‘remaining’ roster responded well, delivering strong performances when needed.

In a recent game against the Washington Mystics, Aliyah Boston recorded an 11-rebound and 12-point double-double while Natasha Howard scored a game-high 17 points to secure a comfortable 94-65win at the Royal Farms Arena.
The win secured the playoff qualification, as a seventh-seeded team in the league standings, bringing some joy to the Fever locker room. The 48-year-old coach accepted that there was a healthy celebration after achieving the qualification goal, but there’s also a mindset of, ‘we still have work to do’.
“I don’t know if relief is the right word, more so just pride. Like, I’m really proud of these guys. You know, with all of the stuff that we’ve been through, most teams would have folded. And we just kept getting stronger, and we kept reinventing ourselves. These women in the locker room deserve a lot of credit for their ability to stay resilient, to stay together, to stay hungry and to stay the course,” proud HC said in the post-game interview.

The Indiana Fever lost five players, including three starters and two midseason acquisitions, to season-ending injuries. Kelsey Mitchell’s explosive scoring form, Natasha Howard’s defensive plays, and Aliyah Boston’s all-around impact kept them going in the tough patch. The Indiana Fever endorsed Mitchell for the MVP accolade and has an outside chance of clinching the illustrious award.
With Odessey Sims, Lexie Hull, and Aerial Powers also delivering meaningful contributions, the side now aims for the bigger rewards.
Possible Path To WNBA Finals For Stephanie White’s Indiana Fever
The Indiana Fever won the Commissioner’s Cup in a difficult situation, following massive wins over the New York Liberty and the Minnesota Lynx. While those were statement wins for the injury-hit side, they had to work harder to make it to the postseason. Even if the Indiana franchise wins its regular-season finale game against the Lynx, they will remain in seventh position.
Now, as per the WNBA playoff format, Stephanie White’s team will play against the Las Vegas Aces in the first round. If they can topple the three-game series against A’ja Wilson’s side, they will most likely go against the Atlanta Dream in the second round of the five-game series.
While the finalist for the 2025 season is very hard to determine, the Lynx and Liberty are still favorites to aim for the title and will play a seven-game series against the winner of Fever vs Dream.
